Anyone ever try bulge end lug nuts?

Recommended Posts

I work at Sears Automotive part time. I was talking to one of the old timers there about pugs and lug nuts. I brought one of them in so he could look at it and he commented that I should try bulge end lug nuts. Has anyone out there tried using this style of lug nut on a Pug, and does it work. I can get this style lug nut for $1.20 a piece. I like that price.

The best pug lug nuts are the originals. They are huge and bulbous and typically tough to find, even the Pug I got my original wheels from only had 12. They seat the rim to lugs best and keep the holes from getting scraped along the lugs and enlarged. The closer you get to those the better, most of the bulge ends are still small compared to the pugs, but they are an improvement. DW

OK, its not a good pic... Just removed these yesterday for a rim swap. Tried to take a quick pic, but it was tougher than I thought it would be. I'm going to borrow a camera with a macro lens and use a tripod. But you can get a general idea that the pug is more bullet shaped and the bulge nut is more of a cone. Also better focus will let me show that the bulge nut is wearing in two distict bands, one on either side of the groove. I'll also shoot one of the wheel. As far as any other differences, important or not, the pug lug is one piece and its heavier.

It isn't the hugest difference in the world, but there is definitely more metal to metal with the original lugs. DW
