coflatlander Posted September 9, 2006 Share Posted September 9, 2006 I just bought a 89 Gl with a broken timing belt. Have it running but idles rough, and has a dead spot at 1800 RPM. I think I was off by one mark on the flywheel when I instaled the new belts. Would that make it run rough and hesitate? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

coflatlander Posted September 10, 2006 Author Share Posted September 10, 2006 Rechecked timing belts. looks ok. Checked the timing it was at 6°BTDC , I read a post that said SPFI should be20° BTDC. Changed the timing it now runs like a champ. This was not in the Subaru Manual under replacing timing belts. Lesson learned when replacing timing belts always check the timing when finished. If you've had a timing belt with excessive slack in it, and someone set the timing like that, the second you put on a new tight timing belt, it throws your timing off.
