Charliedog
Hello Everyone, I am new to this group so please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before. I have a 2001 Subaru Forester with 201, 000 Km on it. The infamous check engine light came on and I had it checked by the dealer. The following codes came up: Knock sensor 1 (high input) - P0328 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit (high input) - P0463 Fuel Trim (P0170) O2 sensor circuit (lean) Bank 1 sensor 1 - P0130 I replaced the knock sensor myself and the check engine light went off but the car was still running rough and now was sometimes stalling when I came to a stop. Then the check engine light came back on! I am going to replace the A/F sensor but was wondering if it something I could do myself? If so, is it easy and is there instructions online I can follow? Any guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
porcupine73
Sure go for it. OE (Subaru) part is recommended for front o2 sensor. You might need some good penetrating oil to loosen the existing front o2 sensor and/or run it maybe 30 seconds or a minute to heat it up a bit before loosening. You'll need to get the vehicle up on jack stands or over a ditch or something to get at it. Make sure to put antisieze on the threads of the new sensor, tho many new ones come with some already on there. Sounds like you might possibly have a vacuum leak too and maybe that's the cause of the remaining problems.
cookie
Charlie I assume you mean the front ox sensor. It carved on my 99 Forester at about 100,000 miles and I got a PO420 code. I just ordered it online (from Jamie) so I knew what it looked like and matched up a wrench. I think it took something like an 1 and 1/8 inch wrench. You could do a search because I posted the instuctions. I just leaned down and changed it from the engine compartment without jacking the car up. After you disconnect the wire you can just see it down by the exhaust. It took about 10 minutes.
