im sorry, but in pulling out of a parking lot at a local grocery store, i had to drive over a hump of dirt/fill to get thru a small construction area.. it may or may not have been TECHNICALLY open to drive thru, but i had to use that parking lot exit to turn left onto the road in question and the barricades were clear, so i went for it. didnt think twice.

BTW, this is strictly urban warrior machine here, 2wd 3at rustbucket... so this does NOT belong in offroading, its not a wheeler!!! and i live in west palm beach, so its not like i even see many dirt roads....still less, hills and ruts.

anyhow, bumped the fronts over, suddenly they are on theyre way back down and im like OH NO NO!! a light *ssccrrrrape* along about a foot of the unibody, then FINALLY the rears started to lift... scared the bejeezus out of me, i thought i was :dead:

i just had to post on it. Im not even an offroader, ive ridden around on the back of a buddys ATV once or twice, thats it.. ida been up sheets' creek. unless i could find a big board or two

haha, yeah I've been there before. Honestly I do more urban offroading than anything, I drive over sidewalks, park up on curbs (those little concrete stopper things and much fun to drive over and park with the front wheels on top of). Getting hi centered or crushing the trans pan (auto also) are my fears... that and tickets. It;s worth it for the looks that my parking jobs get :D

I have taken my 2wd up a granite faced mountain and parked on the edge of a 700ft tall cliff.. and there goes daeron smashing his underside in the big city..

I have hung the bumper over the edge, to stand up and look at the underside of the car. this photo is parked back a foot or two. :)

there arent many things in this universe more amusing than seeing a guy in a porsche make himself look like a fool.

my dad and i were caravaning down the road here one day, i in my moms taurus wagon (BLECH) and my dad in his 86 300ZX. the Z was stock, NA, fivespeed, but he had short tires on it so it had a bit more pickup than most of em. i was behind him, and he wound up next to a boxter at a redlight.. the boxter wasnt paying much attention to that light, but my dad took of normally when it went green. boxter lagged a bit, so he thought my dad was trying to race him (none of us are sluggish drivers, 'specially off the line at a red light)

anyhow, at the next red light, the boxter started revving his engine.. this was a $65K car that was brand new against a (then) 12 yr old NA 300ZX. NOT a real contest (although id take the Z over the boxter any day) and my dad wasnt even really racing him.. just ran hard all the way thru first and second, right up to ~60mph (50mph speed limit.) The porsche kept going, my dad had kept up with him fine 'till he dropped off. What neither of them could see (but i could the entire time) was the sherriff's deputy three cars behind me.. and once my dad shifted from 2nd to 5th and the porsche continued blasting down the street, the cop came tou of the pack like a shark or a barracuda going after a weak fish.....nailed the bugger for better than 70 in a 50 at LEAST.

me and my family hate porsches. my uncle has a bumpersticker from an old car of his (the whole bumpers in his apartment as a decoration) that says Im a PorscheBuster! and has a skunk with his nose pinched on it  and our Zcars have always been our porschebusters... whether they deserved the name or not.

One time, in band camp....

The year - 1991.

At the time my ride was a 1979 Honda Accord hatch, a cute little FWD car purchased in a time of my life before I discovered the joy of 4WD, and band equipment hauling mojo of a Subaru.

My college band "Outta Hand" used to practice in the art building at Fresno State (my drummer was palsey walsey with the dean of the art dept... kiss rump roast). We would smuggle beer and other "musician assistents" into the room where we practiced. Well I never smoke while I play because it makes me play crappy, and I didn't drink that night, though I can't be sure of that :).

We ended practice around 10:30 pm and load the band stuff in our cars. I was the last to leave. To leave the school parking lot you had to make a turn around an island to get to the exit. Well, they had recently rebuilt and widened the island and, while the concrete was set, they hadn't filled in the island yet. So I make the turn around the thing like I normaly do, but I guess that wasn't good enough or wide enough because the next thing I know I jump the island curb and ended up getting stuck, much like in cartoons where the car ends up balancing on the edge of a cliff. It had rained that week, the center of the island was a mud pit, and the front end of my car was stuck in the mud like a diving hippo. Since the car was front wheel drive, there was no hope of getting any tracktion and pulling myself out. Needless to say, the tow truck driver had a great laugh that night.

PS. Exhaust systems have always been my achillies heel. The week before, I had, for the first time EVER, completely sealed the exhaust system after replacing the head gasket. No leaks at all. It was purring like a kitten. It figures I would completely trash it within a weeks time.

at least the soob held onto the muffler, my Zcar just spat it out onto the road. i didnt look back :- )

My old suby wagon had the muffler come off on the highway. Lots of noise as it drug behind by one rubber hanger. I cut the hanger and threw it in the back and continued on. It didn't even get any louder when it came off, so I guess it had been rusted off for a while, and finally came loose.

i never broke anything, i had rust problems

both the muffler on my soob, and the one on my Z, rusted off the pipe. the Zcar's was missing the rear support, too, so it just fell off into oblivion, and my engine suddenly got louder. it took me five seconds to actually believe that it WAS louder... i was driving down a bumpy dirt road at high speed. small bumps, but once they blur together into a high frequency whine, it not only rattles the rusty muffler off, but it makes enough noise to make you doubt it, too!

i just wanted to reaffirm that im not offroading anything, and breaking it.. just being cheap and letting my car rust away on me.
