stumpy
Have a 86GL auto that the govenor gear has apple core syndrone. Replaced gear when I first bought car and my friend drove it for 6 months. Then it ate another gear, so I repalced it and it repeated the process in less than 200 miles this time. Time to replace internal gear (Dealer quoted $20 for part). How much trouble to install? Any one done this procedure? It's a nice car except for this issue. Is it worth fixin? Appreciate any input that you all have to share. Thanks, Stumpy
GeneralDisorder
Major auto trans surgery? Not pretty. Get a manual and try I guess, but it would be easier to find another trans. You will have to drop it, and split the trans case to get to that gear. GD
kayakertom
I'll buy the beer if some 3at auto trans expert in the Portland area is willing to do a hands on seminar on this topic. I have a pulled 3at with the same problem and am reluctant to junk it.
daeron
video any hypothetical seminar and put it on the USMB for a $5 donation
NorthWet
Shouldn't require "splitting the cases", as the tranny sections are kind of "barrel" sections bolted together... but still doesn't look simple. My FSM is AWOL, but IIRC you have to pull at least the rear transfer section before you can remove the front final drive section so that you can access the gear. stumpy
Thanks for the replies guys! Sounds like more than I want to get into right now and I figured as much. Having a hard time dealing with the trans swap I'm working on already. Will look at selling or wait till $ are more plentiful and go for a ej/4eat transplant. Open to offers on car. Can get pics if any one is interested. Cheers, Stumpy
Caboobaroo
you might want to shoot Hondasucks a PM since a couple years ago, he rebuilt a 3AT complete except for the front diff. Seemed pretty easy though I've done a few auto trannies before as well.

If me makes contact I will pick his brain on this issue. Stumpy
