I have a 93 Legacy. I just swapped engines from another 93 went to start and i wont fire. Tested spark and i get none from the 2, 4, cylenders. They both fire from the rear coil. Both engines ran before the swap (broke something internal on one) and ive tried both the coils from the two cars. I wondering what would cause this to happen. From what i have read the cam angle sensors tell the coils when to fire. But one plug on each cam fires. My guess is that i have a loose/ disconnected wire but after hours of searching i cant find it.

I did change the timing belts when the motor was out but am 95% sure that i did it correctly and the motor is in time.

Thanks

David

The coil is

3-4

1-2

If 1&2 are not sparking try the other ECU. I just had the same thing happen on a 93 Turbo engine swap, we got the wrong ECU in and it would not run and there was no sparke on the front coil of the coil pack.

Unfortunately, cylinders 2 and 4 are not a wasted spark pair (they don't fire from the same coil in the pack). The spark-paired cylinders are 1&2 and 3&4; 1&2 are nearer the front, 3&4 nearer the firewall. I'm not sure exactly what is incorrect in your post, a typo or understanding of the cylinder numbering. See the following for coil info:

http://endwrench.com/images/pdfs/IgnitionCoilSum04.pdf

I noticed that there are errors in the "DirectIgnition.pdf" info. In the "Ignition Coil Testing" section, the terminal numbers listed are reversed between the primary and secondary; however, the diagram is labeled correctly. The correct numbering relative to expected resistance is in "IgnitionCoil.pdf"; you can use the diagram from "DirectIgnition.pdf" to identify the terminal numbers.

Just to be sure the engine is timed correctly, etc., the following may be useful:

The info on which mark (notch) on the crank to use is particularly important.

EDIT: Lmdew may have good info.

If the above doesn't help, let us kow if you have any more to go on.

My first thought would be the timing, that is what you worked on. Did you use the mark on the tab of the crank spocket to time or the arrow? I done my first timing job correct only to come back on the second one and use the arrow which is wrong you need to use the line on the tab of spocket.

Well i was mistaken on the #'s it is cylinder 3 and 4 that arent firing. I also swapped the coils so the the ecu is working with the the coil it orginaly came with. Would thier be any other complications if the ecu and coil came from the same car but the engine/cam sensors did not.

Im about to check the timing but dont really understand, even if the timing is off, how it would not let the rear coil fire at all.
