LanceGillette
I've printed out instructions for replacing rear wheel bearing for when you have the special tools and then can replace them on the with out dismantling everything. I want to take my hub and hub housing in to a shop for them to put the bearings in. But it looks like I'll have to unhook the parking brake cable. To unhook the parking brake cable it looks like the hub needs removing. I need some advice on how I should proceed? I'm not a great mechanic. Manarius
Assuming you have disc brakes, and it's similar to the Legacy, in order to get the hub out, you're going to have to completely disassemble the parking brake. It doesn't really take any special tools except some pliers. As far as I know, the only "special tool" to do bearings is a hubtamer.
xrturbo
remove the caliper, than bracket, remove rotor, where the cable goes in to the rear of the hub there will be a little clip you can pop out with a small flat screwdriver, pull the hold down and return spring off the shoe closest to the rear of the vehicle, when you pull the shoe out you will see the cable hanging on the lever, slide the spring back a little with a needle nose and slip the cable off and pull it from the backing plate. just did my like 1000th one yesterday and it still nice and fresh in the mind:headbang:

I got the parking brake cable disconnected. Now I'll have to go buy a breaker bar as I don't have enough leverage to loosen the big bolt connecting the bottom of the hub/bearing housing.
