fnlyfnd
Does anyone know who makes the oem waterpump/ or what is a good water pump for a replacement?? Anyone know for certain what years had the plastic oil seperators instead of the metal ones.
porcupine73
Not sure who makes the water pump for subaru but i think they're reasonably high quality and not all that expensive, maybe $70 online, even if an aftermarket were half that price i'd still go OE. fnlyfnd
I want to go OE, but I want to search for the best price. I've seen two diff. companies that are stated as OE on ebay, and in no way am I going to buy one just find out its the wrong one.
porcupine73
I got mine online from a Subaru dealer for $71 plus shipping. I don't know which ones you were look at on ebay, like this one looks similar to the one I got from online Subaru dealer. This pic shows my new pump on the left and old pump on the right which will at least show what a recent OE pump looks like. There used to be cast impellers now apparantley Subaru has switched to all stamped impellers. The main difference I notice is the one on eBay has less fins on the impeller, it might not be the high velocity version. edit: Oh the other difference I notice with the eBay one is that the pulley is a shiny metal wheras on the ones I bought it was black. edit2: Oh the one on eBay doesn't seem to have the rubber strip in the little groove either. porcupine73
Does the oil separator have another name? I know i've seen it in other threads on here but in the diagram the closest thing I see is a 'baffle plate' but maybe i have the wrong diagram. fnlyfnd
I am pretty sure it is called Oil seperator gasket and, I believe it seperates the engine from the tranny (clutch area)
avk
Pumps with both cast and stamped impellers are available, under different numbers. In the aftermarket they're considered interchangeable.

jsavrtka
Does anyone know who makes the oem waterpump/ or what is a good water pump for a replacement?? Anyone know for certain what years had the plastic oil seperators instead of the metal ones. I had the plastic one in mine. It could be called the rear main seal retainer. Anyway, the metal one I received was 11831AA150. jim
avk
Anyone have any feelings about which is "better?" As OE parts, the two water pumps are specified for different engines. See here: http://endwrench.com/oepropdf/enginecomponents.pdfThere was a thread about it not long ago. Apparently, the stamped impeller provides more flow and was an attempt to improve cooling on 2.5l engines.
fnlyfnd
Its called a Oil seperator PLATE
ShawnW
edit2: Oh the one on eBay doesn't seem to have the rubber strip in the little groove either. Completely re-usable but useful information all the same. Get what you pay for IMO.
