Steveman09
Today I picked up a 1990 Legacy Sedan 5-speed AWD for $200 with a blown engine, the car has 260,000miles on it and the tranny was replaced at 150,000miles. The car is overal in good shape and the body is streight. I have allways wanted to find an older legacy and do a performance build. My question is, which engine swaps could I do and what would it take to do them? I'm mainly interested in an EJ20T (JDM or USDM WRX) Engine Swap. The car will be a daily driver but I still want to get it up to around 250-300hp (crank) I'm new to the older legacys so I dont know much about them, I know allot about the Loyale's and WRX's, I'm a subaru tech as well so I can do all of my own fab and labor. I can't wait to build this baby!
Manarius
If you want 300 at the crank, boosting and tuning an EJ22T would be a good bet. Get forged internals and a huge turbo and intercooler and you could probably hit 250 chp no problem.
Steveman09
The car is a non-turbo, im just debating wheather or not to build the 2.2 or just go newer and stick an EJ20T in it and do the usual stage2 mods to bring it up to 300hp and be reliable. Why not tune and boost a EJ22T? They have those nice little oil squirter things everyone loves, plus it's the strongest block to ever come out of Subaru. Steveman09
Well here's the deal. I have a guy who is willing to sell me an EJ20H Twin Turbo Engine for $500 I could go find an EJ22T but thats not going to be easy and I highly doubt I'll find one for $500 in perfect working order. Any ideas?
Manarius
EJ20TT's are a real pita to use. Unless you feel like converting to RHD, I wouldn't even bother getting that engine. The entire turbo system is setup for RHD, so putting them in a LHD car is a real hassle. EJ22T is a hell of a lot easier to put in than a EJ20TT. More people have done EJ22 to EJ22T swaps than EJ22 to EJ20TT swaps, I can tell you right now.

Well I was going to convert the EJ20H to Single Turbo and run a VF-39, I mean the only reason why I wanna use it so bad is the price $500 for a complete twin turbo Ej20H is a killer deal and he would let me make payments too, but from what I have been reading I might consider an EJ20G Swap Instead but its more money....There is a guy on ebay selling EJ20G Swap's with EVERYTHING needed, ecu, axels, manual tranny, harness, etc for around $1300-1500 which isnt too bad but allot more than $500. Either way I would prefer an EJ20T motor or EJ25T motor due to the fact that the heads are much better flowing and yeild more potential and the DOHC is allways a plus. jamal
check out the nasioc conversion forum FAQ. The 2.2 block and internals are awesome, but they're getting harder to find and heads aren't that great for a whole lot more power from what I hear. An EJ20 is more than capable of 300hp. I think getting JDM motor with a complete harness would be your best bet unless you plan to use a standalone EM, which is expensive. I would avoid the TT motor for something that will fit in there more easily.
