LPG Swappers... questions:

Featured Replies

For those of you that have made the swap to propane, in either a bi-fuel or 100% LPG configuration, I've got some questions.

On my Brat, I'm going to do the swap to LPG for sure.. however theres some questions I'm trying to sort out so I may decide how to proceed.

I recognize that a LP swap on a stock EA81 will result in a ~10% power loss.. how many of you are running this way? Any thoughts, things you'd do different?

What about those of you using forced induction? LPGSuperchargedBrumby comes to mind.. are you running stock internals? What kind of supercharger are you using? Anything you'd do different if you were to do it again?

My real question:

Anybody running EA71 or EA82 (spfi, or carb) pistons with LP? The EA71 pistons should bump the compression to just under 8.85:1 based on reading older threads, and EA82 carb would be 9.0:1, EA82 spfi would be 9.5:1. What sort of limit is there with regards to CR if I was to use any of these in a bi-fuel configuration? Could I run 9.5:1 in a bi-fuel config with 89 pump gas?

Now here's the options as I have them now.. and I request the board's opinion. I can either simply fix my headgasket issue as it sits, and do the LP bifuel swap on my stock block, or since I intend on keeping the Brat forever, just biting the bullet and getting a new block from CCR with EA71, or 82 spfi pistons swapped in. What route would be the best... my intentions are a bi-fuel config, while keeping use of 87(89, regular grade) pump gas.

Thx.
