i was hoping that ranger wheels would fit my legacy

Recommended Posts

reason that i was hoping was cause there's a set of four mounted tires for free in my local paper.size is 205/74/14's (M&S) and they're mounted on early 90s ford ranger wheels..

i found out that rangers used a larger pattern(114,i believe) and where legacy is 100mm.would it be feasible to use them by elongate the holes or should i just put tires on my wheels?

I believe you are looking for a 5 bolt wheel (5x100) and not a 4x100.

You also have to take the offset into condiseration. I have seen VW and Dodge Caravan (I think..it was a Dodge) rims used on Subaru Legacys before. However, since Subaru has a magical offset, you may kill your wheel bearings faster if you use something other than Subaru. I believe that the range of "safe offsets" is something like 48-55.

Why not go for the $250 set of Subaru wheels and Dunlop snow tires for $250 on NH craigslist? Or the set of Firestone snows mounted for $120?

Trying to make something else fit is generally a bad idea because of the aforementioned offset problem. If the center of the wheel isn't aligned with the center of the bearing, a moment develops and causes higher than normal forces on the bearing. It will also make rubbing on the strut or fender more likely.

The nice thing is that most subarus have used the same hubs, bolt pattern, and offset for the last 17 years, so there are a lot of OEM and aftermarket wheels that are compatible between models.

These are the ideal width-offset figures:

Width .... Offset

6.5" ....... +53 to +55

7.0" ....... +50 to +53

7.5" ....... +47 to +50

8.0" ....... +43 to +47

Most Subaru 16" wheels are 6.5" wide. 98-01 RS wheels are 16x7.
