kdixey
I have noticed recently that when I fill up the tak with gas on I on occasion get a smell of gas very strongly inside the car. About a week ago I noticed a small puddle under the passenger side rear wheel at fillup and atributed it to a bit of overflow. Yesterday I got a chance to see it in action...when I am filling up after about 3/4 full there is a small amount of gas dripping between the body panels in the wheel well. Curiously the tank does not leak AFTER it has been filled. I am thinking that there is a problem with the tube that leads to the tank. HAs anyone else had a problem like this? I'm not even sure where to begin. I would imagine it is something I can get in there and fix. I'm open to suggestions. Oh yeah, it's and 4WD GL wagon with 190K and my daily driver. hatchsub
sounds to me like you have a rust hole in the filler neck if its only when your filling it up that it leaks. Im not sure if you can just get a new filler neck or whether you have to get a new tank and neck as a package deal. Or you could do what i would probably do and put some duct tape around the hole
kdixey
I would imagine that there has got to be some way to fix that. Aren't there flexible hoses I could use to replace the filler neck? Ah well, I guess the next step is to get in there and see what is going on. Onward! Kevin
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
Also, I suggest to Check the Hoses that came from the Tank, inside the engine´s bay (Vent. Recirc.) maybe... in my Weberized EA82 White Wagon, it was the reason of gas evaporating/smelling. Good Luck!

ShawnW
The tank and neck are separate parts. The rubber hose on the elbow going from the neck to the tank would be my 1st guess followed by a rust hole in the top of the tank.
kdixey
Rubber hose? I was wondering if it was a setup like that. I am hoping its not a hole in the top of th etank, but I suppose I could patch that as well. Kevin

No torch? ...and that's a bad idea because...??? I was wondering about what non explosive options there were other than duct tape.
