My wifes windstar,the crap battery slowly over worked and killed a 6 month old altenator.just had an identical flicker, battery still worked soso(before we noticed)and always started and ran good.but,slow dying battery caused it all. hope it helps. mikeshoup Posted October 13, 2006 Share Posted October 13, 2006 How did the old one go out? Could have slightly melted some of the wires going to the alt. Did the battery go dead? bgd73 Posted October 13, 2006 Share Posted October 13, 2006 Fusible links can be half bad.. the one under the cap that is stamped "1.25" was my half bad one after a new alternator. verify with guage similar to test, if it works, I don't know where you can get the numbers oem is after. any wire anywhere can do it, but targetting grounds and things designed to burn like fues is best start Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Cougar Posted October 15, 2006 Share Posted October 15, 2006 It sounds to me that there may be a problem with the alternator. Some of the diodes may be bad and causing this problem.
