Justy timing belt change?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I haven't been on here in a few years. I had an 87 turbo wagon for a while but sold it.

Anyway, a friend of mine has a later model Justy he needs to get running. The motor got over-revved:-\ and the timing belt snapped.

So we have the cover off and the belt is ready to go on. We don't know how to line up the marks though and need your help. I've asked around to a few dealerships and of course they're clueless.

I mean which one of the three is the #1 cylinder. I'm assuming it's the one closest to the timing belt...

I'll just have to pull the spark plug to be sure it's at TDC.

Yup, the one closest to the timing belt, there is also a mark on the cam pulley and crank pulley that you just need to line up with the marks and install the new belt.

Odd thing, the #1 cylinder wasn't at TDC, more like BDC. Never run into that before. Maybe #1 was on the right side of the engine?

Are you referring to when you aligned for the t-belt? T-belt alignment is relative to t-belt alignment marks... may or may not have anything to do with TDC or BDC. The marked points are often selected to coincide with when no valves are being held open, allowing the cam to not be under tension while trying to align the marks and belt.

Hi, I have a justy 88 and was thinking to change the timing belt, however I was trying to access the picture you posted of it but it was moved, is there any place or change I can get a copy or link of that picture so I can take a look at it so I can do the job on that car?

THANKS.
