New car to the Subaru family possibly!

Recommended Posts

The other day, my RX was running awesome, like better then it ever has. Went to start it up the other day and it would spit and sputter and not start. Pulled the plugs... fouled. Replaced them and it ran pretty good again. Was checking some things and making sure my cooling fans were working when it idled down and died like it normally does. Went to start it up, spit and sputter again. Pulled the plugs... fouled AGAIN! Yes... I blew the rings from the looks of it because its an oil fouled plug, not fuel. So fast forward to yesterday. LUVMYBRAT calls me at work and tells me there's a guy he knows that has a GL 3-door. Couldn't really give me details on it until he looked at it some more. He said it was silver, 2wd, very nice shape, and only $100 bucks. So I was thinking what might be wrong with it. He said it doesn't start but I don't know the details of the kid's story. Well today, while on lunch, Bill calls me again. Says its an '87 GL, FWD auto. Kid says he was driving it and it died but isn't very mechanically inclined so he wasn't sure what happenend. I quickly thought of two things. Either a timing belt or the screw in the disty rotor coming out. Also says it cranks and cranks and cranks but doesn't fire.... He also said he *thinks* its the neutral safety switch:rolleyes: So hopefully, I can take a look at it this weekend and see what all it needs. Apparently the body is immaculate and there's no rust so yay for me. And for $100 bucks, who cares? I got a couple spare engines laying around;)

Well the deal is sealed. Absolutly no rust and maybe 2 small dents on the whole car. Also is coming with 4 brand new never mounted snowtires:banana: Interior is in awesome shape as well! We're gonna get it to my house at the end of the month and its going to have a couple timing belts thrown into it and I'll be driving it, woohoo! Now its time to get another engine for my RX.... oh and some pics of the new ride:rolleyes:

Nice pick-up Russ! Just goes to show if you're patient and keep your ears open you can find some pretty good deals out there. By the way, did Andrew ever pick-up his '75 coupe? I sold my '85 Hatch, but am using the '86 regularly, and love driving it, looking forward to see how the 4x4 works in the snow and mud when winter gets here. Take care Russ.

Is the new ride the back up ride for when the RX isn't feeling happy?

yes, it'll be my DD since my RX is never happy....

Jack, no I still have the coupe here in my shop but he wants to come out and pick it up soon. Unfortunatly, winter has already hit Wyoming so driving it back now wouldn't be such a hot idea. And with the way truckers drive after the summit between here and Cheyenne opens on I-80, after it has been shut down for snow, is a demolition derby...

Oh, it's also going to get a manual 4wd setup put under it since I have everything to do that to it, and a 5-lug possibly...
