torxxx
In my 86 GL every now and then (about once a week) my motor starts ticking.. it sounds like lifters making noise but I'm not sure... It ticks until the motor gets hot.. Bout 3 hours of racing round in the snow and then the ticking slowly goes away.. I change my oil ever 2k miles. Any IdeaS? 86subaru
mine does the same thing on my 86 spfi 2wd sdan , try mmo about 1/2 qt the next time you change your oil , 2.50 qt , just my 2 cents also run a good filter ,
torxxx
Prolly a newb question.. but whats mmo? I'm runnign the Fram Extended Filter (good for 7000 miles) but I still change oil and filter every 2000 miles... Someone told me somewhere it might be the hydraulic valve lashers arent pumping up all the way... could this be the problem?
MaroonDuneDoom
i think what he's referring to as MMO is Mystery Motor Oil. supposedly baddass stuff. couldn't hurt. in fact, i'm certain that it will help a bit at least. if it's not serious, sometimes it just goes away after additives. torxxx
a/t? you mean the red stuff right? I've heard of peeps doin that to clean out their motors.. does it really work?
dave valiant
Ive had good experiences with the ATF flush. Ialways run a quart and drive for 30-40 minutes then change my oil. Helps keep everything clean in the engine. been doin that for a few years never had anything bad happen.

Hondasucks
Dude, one thing, ditch the Fram garbage filter and go with a Purolator Pure One (same as OEM Subaru) or a genuine Subaru filter. The lifter noise is caused by several things some of them are: O rings in the heads going out Pressure releif valve springs getting weak Going oil pump bad oil pump seals gunk built up in the lifters
