sgregory
Cool video, I like the shot out the side looking down the fender, looks like a lot of fun.
Phizinza
The outside onboard shots were done with a wireless camera and VCR, powered buy a 1200watt house inverter, I still need to make up a box to put it all in the tray. We headed out to Dorado Downs (a property 240km away from where I live, in the aussie outback.) Got there at about 4pm Friday, had a little drive around. Got back to the camp site and cooked some chicken schnitzels. My Brother slept in his 83 wagon, said it was quite alright. I slept in the back of my ute. I'm 182cm tall, the tray is 160cm long. It was nice looking at the stars, until it got cold and I closed the tailgate... Still was ok though, better then setting up a tent anyhow. There wasn't a hill that the Pajero buggy didn't make it up. Infact it done it all with ease. I told Steve, the builder and driver of the buggy he should go up in reverse as a challenge, it only made it about half way up though.. haha. Phizinza
Bit more of a back story I forgot to mention. 8 days before we drove out to the place in the video the 83 wagon ran out of water (blown heater hose) and my bro thought it was just running low on oil, so he drove it for 20mins like that... When he got home, it was running very bad, we figured (with the help of this forum) that it was a cracked head or blown gasket. Compression said 125 on both 2 and 4, and 60 on both 1 and 3. So took the head off, replaced it with on sitting on another EA81 we had sitting there, replaced the gasket with a new $17 one. And rock on, works like it used it. Plenty of power, but now it also has a bit of a rattle. Anyway, after driving for 20 minutes on a hot-ish day without water. 2 hours of work later and the car is ready to drive 500km and bash around in the sand without a glitch. That is why I drive a Subaru. Only cost $17 plus a few $ for sealent and a head from a engine we got in a wreck that cost $150, which we've already used one axle out of and it's rear diff. Not the mention the front fenders and both it's font hubs.. It's amazing how cheap it is do run a subie then any other car I know of...
ninjaben43
yeah were broke around here too, but even if i had money i would still only drive subies:headbang: i need to get some of those kumhos, my swampers are almost bald after only 1-2000 miles:mad:
Phizinza
The Kumho's start with 14mm thread depth. I've used them for 9000KM and they have only gone down 2.5mm. So I am happy with them Apprantly the BFG A/T's and Toyo A/T's have similar compound rubber. My Brother is looking at getting some Toyo's because their thread looks pretty good for an A/T. And his been told they can last upto 90,000KM

Phizinza
I was told by a mate that the video was boring.. haha. I think it didn't have enough crazy stuff like burnouts and jumps for him (his the guy in white wagon in the other video that got air, just.) It probably needs some music too. Maybe next time I'll get out of the car more and video the conventional way as well. Just gotta go offroading again eh? Pitty it's summer here again, and it was the driest winter on record here so I have doubts about any good mud around for at least 6months... I took the Brumby with the road wheels on down to the Murray mouth and done some awesome drifting around the river side on the flat sand. Although I needed to get pushed out of some soft stuff trying to get back to the road. It's weird because my brothers 83 wagon with 185/75R14's that are bald had no problems down there, but my almost new 215/60R15's just sunk. My kumho's are the best tyre on a subaru I've seen so far in any condition, they made the sand look like a hard dirt road. But these roadie wheels sucked. How weird. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=k&om=1&ll=-35.555482,138.878517&spn=0.08533,0.188484 I've got a video from my bro's phone of the drifting but it's very small and blury. So you can't see it well, only looks good to me because I took one of the video's and it just reminds me of what it looked like. I should really keep my DV cam in the car at all times. Could a ramble on anymore?
WoodsWagon
Thank you for making a video without music. I like to hear the suspension bottoming and the engine howling on the hillclimbs! Looks like loads of fun.
Phizinza
Thank you for making a video without music. I like to hear the suspension bottoming and the engine howling on the hillclimbs! Looks like loads of fun. No problem. I wanted to do something a little different. Next time I will get more camera angles Also the whole copy right thing is a little better without music... Not that I've always been so good, or will always be so good.
WoodsWagon
Can you put the camera on the front bumper? That would be a motion sickness inducing shot.
Phizinza
Pretty much anywere that isn't paint at the moment. I just duct tape the wireless camera to different places. I was thinking under the bullbar looking backward at the front suspension/brake/wheel... Hopefully I will get the VCR in my car working so I can have two videos at the same time and slice them together..
