bigjim5551212
We sold a carb for a 87 the other day. It is coming back because it is going to hit some bracket on the power steering. Has anyone heard of this? and what is the remedy
chef_tim
Hi Jim, glad to see you're still around. Yes it is common for a Weber to hit the P/S on an EA82. The only remedy on a DGV is to turn it around and run it backwards. That or use the Weber that is already 180º off (can't recall the designation at this time). I also "think" that a manual choke will solve the problem. Later, Tim
GeneralDisorder
The choke hits the power steering reservior - the fix is to beat the power steering reservoir with a ball-peen hammer till it clears . Use the stock plastic Hitachi spacer under the adaptor for additional height, and beat it back just enough so the electric choke clears without touching. It does not hurt or effect the PS in any way. Mine has been like this for 20,000 miles. Also the EA82 still has plenty of room for the large air filter. Turning the DGV backwards is a paint in the butt - you have to replace the throttle cable, and lengthen the fuel lines, and then the AC idle up doesn't work, the base adaptor isn't the right shape, etc, etc. Major PITA. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
Maybe my Weber came bigger, ´cos the choke was hittin´ the steerin´ reservoir and the Webber´s Base was Hittin´ one of the Main Steerin´ pump Screws (at the Pump´s back) so, first, I removed the Choke (I live in the Caribbean Tropics, so Choke here isn´t needed) and I made a round metallic plate to close the choke´s openin´ Also, I cutted off the Steerin´ Pump Screw´s head, and it Works fine for me! Look a This for Reference: Also, I have to Make some Drill Job on the Intake Manyfold to make fit there the 5/16" Screws (Originally, EA82´s Carb use 1/4" Screws) Anyhow, Hopin´ that this post will help anybody with same problems. Good Luck!
