foxgap
I have the old one out and the new one ordered. Now for the question, is it easier to replace the cylinder with the door handle off of the car or can I get that spring clip back in with the handle still on the door? It looks like 2 nuts and a clip will get the handle off. Is this corrrect? I don't want to start taking this apart yet, The locksmith has to key the cylinder first and I need to drive the car to work. Thanks all, Mark
Legacy777
I did this back in 95.....I personally think it's easier to take the handle out. If you drive around with the lock cylinder/door handle out, make sure you don't put down the window. It can bend/pop off some of the metal rods. This happen to me, it's a pain to put back on. foxgap
I got the cylinder back from the locksmith on Thursday morning and 20 min later the lock was in and the door panel back on. I did remove the bolt from the window track and losened the door handle enough to lean it out enough to get the spring clip back on. After that it was a simple matter of putting it all back together. On a scale of 1-10 in difficulty, 10 being send it back to the dealer, I would say this project was a 4. I would do it again in a moment. Thanks for all the advice, Mark
kimokalihi
I got my lagacy from a guy who was staying at my house for a couple months (divorce) and he gave it to my parents for letting him stay here. Trouble was, his daughter had the car and she was a meth head and didn't get along with him. We transfered the title to my parents name and then call the cops and had them go to the daughter's place and take the car from her because she would not cooperate. She didn't believe us that we owned the car and she called the cops but they were already on the way and they told her it was ours lol. She would not give us the keys so my step dad broke the ignition and used a screwdriver to start it. I went to my local junkyard and got a new ignition and all the locks on the car and when I got home to put them in, I realized the lock for the driver side door was broken inside and could not be fixed. The passender side lock wouldn't fit in the driver side handle, so now I have no locks. If I grab a new ignition and locks from another subaru, can I go to the dealer with the vin from that car and have keys made?
foxgap
We got keys cut at the dealer for ours using the Vin. We took the whole car over to the dealer though. Maybe if you have a reciept from the yard that would work.
