mikeshoup
Okay, so this 84 TWag I just bought starts to surge, then the ECS light flickers. I've been looking and trying to find the black plugs to connect to pull up the stored codes, but there is no black connectors!? I seem to remember reading in a previous thread that the EA81Ts don't store codes. So how do I find out what code its throwing? The light just flickers, it doesn't ever stay on. Caboobaroo
sounds like the same problem going on with LUVMYBRAT's maroon t-coupe in South Dakota (his daughter is driving it). ECS light flickers and it surges... he had a thread goin for a little while on it. Lemme find it... Here it is... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66498&highlight=t-coupe
Ross
Read the codes while driving - tricky but possible. Even if the light just flickers, it will give you the code a couple of times if I remember correctly.
ShawnW
I think if you plug the green connectors in and drive it around it will test everything and dump codes for anything out of spec.
mikeshoup
I'm so confused. Drove the car around for 20 min today, and no trouble at all with surging.
GeneralDisorder
If it's like later models you not only have to connect the green's (after it's been warmed up), but also follow the D-Check procedure (depress accelerator, return to half throttle and hold for more than 2 seconds, start engine, drive more than 5 MPH for at least 1 minute, etc). But I have no idea if that's corect for the EA81T as my 83 FSM doesn't cover the turbo. That's how it's done on the FI EA82's tho. GD
subiemech85
find the d-check connectors, IIRC green with a brown wire??? turn OFF key switch connect D/check connectors turn ignition ON ECS lamp "should" be ON fuel pump "should" operate intermettently, turn on and off every 1.5 sec. start engine ECS lamp on, with ignition on, check for the fault code by observing the O2 monitor lamp of the control unit (codes 11-42) if no ECS lamp, ask for more help, as that is on page
