EA-82T Exhaust Leak...Vaccum Leaks... Where???

Recommended Posts

Hey guys... I recently replaced my TD-04 up pipe gasket and my header gaskets.... they were totaly gone... I tightened them up and some how... i still have an exhaust leak... and its before the turbo.. or so I think... Heres my symptoms....

I can Hear an exhaust leak... I know what they sound like

I Can smell an Exhaust leak...

My boost only builds up to .42 (on a good day) It was origionally at like .55 or something like that (been so long Ive forgotten)

I've found a significan vaccum leak that led to this little tiny metal box located on the passenger side of the intake Mani.... I fixed it (what does it do emissions or something????)

My car is intercooled and I have checked all my sili Lines and found no leaks... tomarrow I will check again...

I cant find any "visual" Signs of exhaust leakage.... no black no nothing...

Basically I wana know what types of vaccum leaks to look for in this car and are these known to crack headers... oh yeah I checked the mating surface of the header and it wasnt cracked... confused, Frustrated... and darn not safe without any power.... 82Ts are really slow when boost doesnt work... REALLY SLOW!!!:D

the stock headers like to crack right where the second head comes into the flow, heading up to the turbo. If yours still has the heat shields on it, it'll hide the crack but it'll still be there. If you have a significant exhaust leak before the turbo, you'll get hardly any spoolage from it, especially on a TD04...

So your saying those little stamp metal things could very well be hiding something from me... How do I take them off and if I do... to they do any good and will they go back on???

And what about the little metal dohicky with the vaccum line going into it??? I kinda wana know what that was considering my car still runs like poo after I fixed the vaccum leak??? And the box has wires that lead to it...

a pic would really help with the little box you're referring too since I have like a million intakes around here. The easiest way to get the heat shields off is a cutting wheel. If you cut them right, you can reuse them and tack weld them back on into place so don't get too carried away.
