the sucker king
i recently bought exaust valves that are for up to '79 1600 cc motor. are they the same as an '80. i know in 1980, the ea71 engine changed a little. in what ways? all i've noticed is that the engine designation stamp moved and the air cleaner (and probobly the carb) are different. MilesFox
i know that 86 era hatches had the ea81 valves in them. but i dont know what year they started the bigger valves. having the starter on the side would be a clue to start with
mcbrat
starting in '80 the ea71 went to a "fat case" design that allowed the use of the same oil and water pumps as the ea81.... not asure what else though
PoorManzImpreza
the late 80's ea71s had bigger intake manifold, bigger valves, hydraulic lifters, ea82/81 style air intake setup and bigger hitachi carb w electric choke. Had ea81/82 style bell housing 9.0:1 compression and different cam shaft...could be more I'm still finding things out...
