bkcraun
Since my 04 Forester is at the dealer for a new short block, I have instructed them to go ahead and replace the timing belt, tensioner, spark plugs and to do a tranny flush. The car has 25,000 miles on it. I'm only paying for parts, not labor. Is there anything else I should tell them to replace at this time?
idosubaru
what happened to the block? how long did it sit out of the car or not running? check the valve clearances while the heads are off maybe. probably doesn't need it, but since they are a pain to do, why not check them with the heads off and at the dealer? if the engine was overheated i'd get a new water pump. at only 25,000 you could easily skip it, but on that engine i always replace t-belts and water pumps together. cheap insurance on a good motor. i doubt it did, but if the engine sat for awhile i might consider some seals being replaced (like cam seals), but i'm guessing that's probably not the case. bkcraun
No, it's a new block being installed by the dealer. I just want to know what else I should get replaced since it will be free labor.
bkcraun
Got my Forester back from the dealer with its fresh block. I decided to go ahead and pay for a new belt and tensioner, plugs, cam seals and a tranny flush. The tensioner was close to $150? Anyway, I should be good to go now until 60k.
