How much were you quoted for a OEM muffler for a 90-94 Leg?

Recommended Posts

I got this crappy muffler, but it sounds SO awful, surprised that i can barely hear it in the car, but if someone is standing outside WOW!! its SO loud, i can hear it from a mile away! But it makes the car sound like a ************ box, so i want to get the OEM, and i liked having a silver muffler instead of black  Its for a 93 legacy wagon, i looked on OEM part websites, but they are NOT actual OEM pipes, says a different brand, its pretty much my moms car so no performance guys, lol. Thanks, just hate the way it sounds from the outside, probably loosing some performance too:-\

About $100 plus shipping (OEM)

Local car parts supplier about $95 but not Subaru...looks just like

Subaru except the chrome tip is not supplied.

Both are the muffler and the pipe up to the muffler.

Just bought a good used one from a junkyard for $20...complete

from converter (not including converter) to the chrome tip.

From a 99 Legacy so all I can probably use on the 90 Legacy

is the muffler, but it'll sound better than the $#!+ sounding

muffler my son put on it. Then his was free though.

lol, believe it or not, I HATE loud exhausts sounds like a guy farting driving by:lol: well a ricer will be a ricer, i think ill get a muffler from a parted out legacy, my old one had a nice big hole in the bottom off it, thats what happens in Canada right?

Thanks, never checked out that site, 100US is pretty good, but thats if i cant find a muffler from another legacy. I wonder how much of a difference there is between the turbo and non turbo muffler ?

I don't mind a muffler that has a little rumble, both my Mustangs

have exhaust that can be heard. But I like my Subaru to be QUIET.

And a loud Subaru just sounds like a mad VW to me.

The used muffler I bought will get welded onto the old pipe and

should fit the factory hangers...and it will look and sound OEM.

I really like how quiet my 2000 OBS is.

I like my subaru quiet as well so I can hear my music or just enjoy some peace and quiet once in a while. I remember when I got the car I had to keep checking the RPM gauge to see if it had died!

But I must say, I've heard several WRXs with full exhausts and they sound amazing. They're mean! They sound nothing like the hondas with ricecans on them.

I only like exhausts that are nice and deep(I hate the high pitch crackle snap rice sound)or something like a lamborghini. You know how those sports cars sound.

An aftermarket replacement from a parts store intended for the legacy should be fine. Just make sure that "performance" isn't anywhere on the label.

In my book, subaru's should be quiet, or they should have NO cat back exhaust. When they're quiet, you don't bother anyone, and you leave a positive impression behind. When the exhaust stops after the cat, dam they sound mean. The EJ22 sounds like a V8 at idle, a nice blub blub sound, and when you hammer on it, it just ripps. Nice crackle on decel too.

Also you all are getting something. An open exhaust in a car not modified for it can cause a loss of bottom end torque, and also burn up exhaust valves. Ht gasses quickly flowing by steel valves will erode them (friction), slower gas flow avoids this.

I also wonder this. Especially since I've got a 99 non-turbo legacy wagon(as well as a 94 turbo one) and a spare turbo axle-back section. HMMMMM

Thats a consideration if you're running open headers or no headers. If you have the cat on there, I would think you have enough back pressure.
