Is it missing the highest gear and not shifting into it? What is the Normal RPM range for each gear with an auto trans? mikeshoup Posted December 8, 2006 Share Posted December 8, 2006 The gearing on the 3ATs are terrible. 3.5K @ 55mph seems a little high maybe though. I think my turbowagon is at about 3K @ 55, but yours could have different sized tires/reductions, etc. You're fine. Its the tranny's gearing that sucks. zyewdall Posted December 9, 2006 Share Posted December 9, 2006 I have a manual EA82, but I try to keep the RPM's between 3k and 4k in general driving. 2.5k is about the lowest I let it go if I'm trying to get power out of it. So... given that, the rpm's given for the auto trannies don't sound out of range. It doesn't seem to hurt the gas mileage to keep it at higher rpm's, and it actually has power. Which is sorta silly that the speedo goes to 125mph or whatever; there's no way I can push my soob past 75 without the engine feeling like it's going to launch out of the engine compartment like a TOP! They did - the 4EAT (FT4WD, or AWD if you like - 4 speed auto with overdrive) came out in 87, and the 3AT was only used on the low and mid-range models.
