MaroonDuneDoom
i figure that i've listed a broad enough range of states to get some activity. i see how all other ares of the U.S. have all kinds of fancy subaru get togethers, why not us? i think next semmer or so we should all try to get together at a spot that works for everyone. speaking of, does anybody know of some nice off-road spots in our area. jealousy is getting the best of me and i NEED to flock with some fellow subaru nuts. it just seems that there is nearly nobody in our area. i say its time to band together and unite. who knows, maybe we can come up with a clever name too! looking forward to your response
Capman2k
Hey, I'm from Cheyenne.... I don't know the Casper area too well, but if you're willing to drive 3 hours for wheeling, you could go play on some of the forest roads in the Vedauwoo area... You can order a map of the area that lists most of the roads from somewhere... If I find the place I'll post it up... The map is pretty accurate... I did find one area I wanted to explore that was closed down, and several roads that aren't on the map. Some spots were a bit challenging in my stock Explorer, so I'm sure it'd be a bit of a challenge in a 'ru. If you ever want to get together, let me know... I'm looking at selling my Explorer in the near future for another Subaru, so we might be evenly matched even
MaroonDuneDoom
cool. finally i found someone in my area. we are like the smallest minority on the board. i've been contemplating a business trip to cheyenne for quite awhile. maybe i'll come down in the next month or two. when i do. i'll let you know. maybe we can do some wheelin if it's dry enough. take it easy wyomingite:headbang:
Capman2k
I think I was the only Wyomingite on here for a long time , at one time there was someone else from Wyoming... I think Laramie, but not sure... But anyway, we're special and stuff... About the whole meet thing, it sounds like a good idea, but Iowa's a little far... and isn't it a bit flat too? Maybe we could get one going in Colorado... Up around Estes Park or in the Poudre Canyon would be awesome There are also some dunes near Walden, Colorado... I went wheeling there in April in my Explorer... seems like it'd be fun in the summer when it's not all snowy and muddy...
mcbrat
Iowa isn't all flat..... just the big part in the middle but even then there are lots of people that wheel in Iowa. Just not many soobs....
MaroonDuneDoom
yeah, capman. that is a nice area you described. (not the iowa part:-p ). are there many trails down around estes park and that area? a meet next sumer after everytrhiung dries up would be awesome. i'll have my lift and some big tires by then too!!!!!! as the muscle man randy savage would say, "ooohhh yeah!" Capman2k
Ummm.... I don't really know the Estes Park area too well, I haven't been up there since I was a kid (bout 6 years ago )... But looking at http://www.4x4trails.net, there are quite a few around Ft. Collins/Poudre Canyon. Most of them are rated at 4 or higher though, might be a bit much for even a lifted 'ru... Although if I keep my Explorer, I have a lift kit in the mail that should be here any day now. Moody Hill just west of Ft. Collins kicked my rump roast in September and I want to go show it who's the boss :temper: Whatever happened to Mr. Savage anyway?!?! I used to like watching him in WCW... but those f***ers from the WWF (Russo and some other guy if I remember right) screwed up wrestling forever, so I haven't watched since the nWo was the big thing... :headbang:
the sucker king
i live just east of estes park in lyons, at the bottom of the st vrain canyon, and there is a ton of off roading to be had around here. there is so much public land (mostly forrest service round here), you can't help but find it. my favorite places, however are in the northwestern part of colorado, moffat county, where blm owns about 98% of the land. it's not high peaks, but it is nutty rump roast desert terrain and when it rains it turns into the sloppiest fun you ever had. and on blm land your free to really get loose. but alas, it is better explored in the non snowy seasons, when you can camp and fish and drink till the moon goes down. that's my opinion. so yeah, we should all get together. toybuilder
Yes, we should all get together. In Colorado! No way I'm going to Wyoming. I am glad that I am from there, and that I am not there. Not to mention, a bunch of us in freaky looking Subarus with out of state plates, would certainly draw attention/harrassment from the conservative Wyoming police. BlueSoob
I'm starting to get a warm feeling in my tummy.. I was glad I left Wyoming. I couldn't find any "good" places to take off road. For fun I would drive up to the oil refineries at full speed just for a little adrenaline. (as my mom rolled her van off of one of these roads... I mean.. ROLLED) Other than that it was tackling the hill behind my high school. That got pretty boring fast. I'm so excited to live near Mount Baker in WA now. I live 3 mins from 10 different Forest Service Roads. I grew up in Southern Wyoming and found it rather blah. Oddly enough.. spending 18 yrs in Wyoming, I had only been to Colorado once -now twice - both times straight through Denver. Sadly enough, I no longer have my GL but now a Forester - which is a lot closer to the dimensions of my GL than my Legacy ever was. Never fear dear Wyoming peoples..There are others of us... But like Alaska.. we are very few... and mostly scattered.
xenongod
Pretty soon Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park area will be blanketed with snow...so...it will probably be snowed over or muddy. Anyhoo...sure...in any condition...I'm in...my Diamond kicked butt in the last Spring blizzard...therefore...make a place and time...hopefully a weekend...and I will try to be there. the sucker king
mr. xenongod- is your wagon a sweet rustfree machine w/ a chrome pushbar and "black diamond" or something on it? if so i saw it once.
xenongod
I named her Diamond before I even knew that they put out a model for the Ski Team that they called Black Diamond. Anyhoo...yah...it looks rust-free...but that's becuase I treated all of the rust with POR-15 and used cosmetic items from JC Whitney to cover up all the cancer holes...a lot easier and cheaper than cutting and welding..which is what I thought my first choice was going to be to restore it. Check my website..hit the "WWW" at the bottom of this post to read up on it...truely a wonderful machine...and she his home today because snow is in the forecast....woohoooo. And...yes...I do have a push bar...came off of a '84 Brat...bought it using my change jar money...I was broke at the time but really wanted it...really had to do some customizing (sledgehammer) to make it work...but it's on..and on good...hehe. Take care.
MaroonDuneDoom
i think we should have a HUGE get together next summer. it will be dry, and the weather will be nice. i just don't want to venture mywagon on it's first road trip just to go slip around and get stuck in the snow. i wanna climb some hills and tear some s*** up! MilesFox
Yo! being there is nothing really in the midwest, i got a small swap meet together last year. 4 people showed up, one from michigan, 3 from ohio. not too good of a turnout, but not bad. so far i keep regular meeting with 2 that showed, in fact, i am at his house right now. we have our local in-town guys, and now we got a new guy from within an hour away. the next time we have a meet, i bet more people show. there is a fairly good number of us now, and a good number close enough to meet, but we just now know about eachother within the last year. but if you want to get something going, more power to you. you got in mind what i have got on a fair start here in indiana! i would like to have another meet next year, and if so it will be the second meet, then would be an ANNUAL meet, 2 years in a row. Hopefully we can be the biggest subaru groub between the hatch patrol and paul moosens. if you get something going on by summer, who knows, i may show up!. i made the trip out west so i can for sure make a trip half the distance! more power to the Midwest!!!!!!
