mellow65
ok first i wanted a lifted ea82 wagon, bought the AA lift some AA rims and bought a ea81 lifted wagon with a 5 speed DR swaped in that I was going to keep the tranny and part the wagon out. next i fall in love with the simple ea81 wagon and then finding out i can do a spfi swap i was hooked. its rough around the edges but cool none the less. so i sell the AA rims (because they rubbed) buy a parts car for the spfi swap and get some 6 lug rims to drill out. all was well in my subaru land. then i was cruising craigs list and what do i stumble across, a car i have wanted ever since i can remember, we are talking small kid ages here. an 86 gl 4x4 hatch. oh my god i had to have it. it doesn't run right now, but thats ok. it's clean, it's stock, it was cheap and i think it was the second owners of it. so i brought it home to add to my slowly growing collection of subarus in my driveway. so here it is. my new hatch So now what you may ask. Well the 93 4x4 loyale wagon is going bye bye the 94 4x4 loyale wagon parts car is going to be stripped of all the FI parts i need and then part out what i can sell then off to the scrap yard. the 83 wagon sadly with probably be parted out for the tranny once again. and then parted out completely for what ever i can get for it. Or maybe swap it for a 5 speed DR and some money then the spfi will go on the hatch and then we will see what the future may bring for it. lifts, 5 speeds DR rear discs:clap:

mellow65
Very Nice !! Looks alot like my 86 Hatch, only yours is in much better condition...Any idea whats wrong with it? the story goes about 2 years ago a guy was getting ready for work and left it outside to warm up when he came back it wasn't running. and there it sat. he says it has fuel and spark but i haven't gotten a chance to check that for myself. i was thinking of just saying f*ck it and just do the spfi swap and start from there. it cranks over, so in a ea81 thats half the battle,it means it's not completely dead ill keep updating as i can, this next week is going to be crazy for me so i wont be able to think subaru at all. just work work work. That way, when you do the SPFI swap, you know it was running before, and then you can narrow down problems to the SPFI swap. Makes it a lot easier to trouble shoot if the car's been running previously.
Spiffy
yeah, I was checking that one out myself... but although I loved by hatch back in the day it's just not large enough anymore... maybe someday... for now I'll work on my wagons... one of each, ea82 and ea81, so I don't get bored... (: nice score... was wondering why I hadn't heard any more from you about the ea81 wagon parts... hehe... --Spiffy
Frank B
It looks just like my 89 hatch, but I have a bashed passenger side fender! Mine likes to stumble as if it would stall, but it never does, during warm up. I suspect the carb so maybe start there?? Maybe when santa brings my weber I'll find out. mellow65
i was thinking of doing that also. i have a webber on my wagon that i am going to get rid of, so swapping it on and just see if it will run maybe the easiest thing to do rather then deal with that monster of an electronic carb. good god i dont think i have seen so many vacuum lines in my life I would say, try to get it running before doing the SPFI swap. It feels more like a regular car with that extra room for putting a lot of stuff in.
WoodsWagon
Take the lift out of the wagon, put it on the hatch, put the AA wheels on the hatch, and run some 27" tires. It would look nice.

mellow65
the wagon has a 3" lift I was going to go 4" just for the hell of it. me and GD are going to make some strut extensions then the rest can be made from square tubing. and all my AA rims are now sold or spoken for. but its all good. I am hoping to get on at least seeing if the thing will run this next week. then well if i ever get 5 min to breath i will start doing what should be done to it. lift spfi swap 5 speed DR swap playing in the mud and snow and then some day, a ej22, but that's just in my dreams right now Take the lift out of the wagon, put it on the hatch, put the AA wheels on the hatch, and run some 27" tires. It would look nice.
