Joey Joe
I am removing the damaged engine cross member in my 90 loyale. I have gotten most of the easy stuff removed but I have questions...... Do I need to lift the motor from the top or can I jack it from the bottom to remove pressure from the cross member? I will also have to remove the rack and pinion and steering arms ect... My manual should explain the removal easily, but how much do I have to remove to pulll the cross member out? Also, if anyone has done this I would love to have any tips. Turbone
Take a 2x4, make sure its long enough to go across to both fenders and then secure a chain to the hoist points and across the 2x4. Make sure to remove the motor mount bolts. The power steering hoses will need to be disconnected, this is the messy part. Might be a good idea to have a bucket handy. Remove the tierod ends from the hubs and the x-member should be ready to drop. You can remove the steering rack when you have the x-member removed. WoodsWagon
Loosening up the pitching stopper at the back of the engine to the firewall can help with letting you lift the motor up a bit before holding it with the chain.
