Shipping a car

Recommended Posts

das auto shippers period.

they will out do any independent shipper any day. i`ve shipped 6 cars with them cross country and haven`t paid more than $650. also have paid as low as $450.

the trick is to do a terminal to terminal shipment with no insurance (thats $200 right there). i have never had a car damaged by them either.

with no insurance

However, the insurance I bought from them when I had my '75 shipped did pay for a replacement windshield. I wouldn't skimp on it unless you have full collision on the vehicle being shipped and a way to prove the damages happened after you bought it, if this is a new toy.

Yeah, I am homesick for some good old PA rust. :headbang:

Actually, I am interested in the water wagon in OH.

The trick is to find a rig with extra capacity - and for all parties to be flexible on both ends of the trip.

If there is a large auto auction nearby, they will know who is hauling to/from the area you are interested in. You'll hafta spend a lot of time on the phone making arrangements and such, but remember, you are cutting out the middleman. Timing is very important. You may have to wait for the right deal, and it may be a "last minute" sort of thing. The carriers will schedule as many regular tranpsorts (at full rate) as possible, and cut you a deal on the empty slots.

I don't know if you were serious about shipping from OH, but if this is your starting point, I can refer you to a couple of big auction companies near C-Bus. PM me if interested.

good luck, John

i wonder how many stamps you need.....

nipper

I think if you'd cover the car from head to toe in 1st class stamps and dropped it off at your main USPS collating office they wouldn't have a problem with it :brow:

Although, to answer the serious question, with DAS I'd conquer - or was that Caesar ;) ?

They quoted me $630 while all the "6 quote" websites came in at least $200 higher.

In the end though, I paid a little more ($655) from www.ableautotransport.com for door-to-door service.
