crazy D
well i have noticed that my fuel is disappearing....i cant think what it could be......lets say i have a quarter tank.... i drive for like 20 miles and then i have 1/8th all of the sudden. i parked the car other day (half tank) and it sat over night and i started it up the next morning and it had a quarter tank...!? then sometimes ill shut it off at quarter tank and before i turn the key the next morning it says i almost have a full tank? and then it will drop down lower than it was the morning...and stay there and keep that reading.....there are 3 possibilities i can think of......#1 the sending unit is crap. #2 u guys know ive been having carb problems like mad(tryin to save up for a weber) so it could just be the crappy carb.. #3 i have a fuel leak somewhere, which i dont think is the case because there are no fuel drippings anywhere in the driveway, behind me in a trail,or where ever i park.....help is appreciated...thanks in advance -D:dead:
mikeshoup
Verify you are actually losing fuel when this happens. Though, since the gauge went from 1/4 to full, it sounds like your sending unit isn't working right.
crazy D
it only went to full once and it did that over night when it was shut off....i think it might me the unit too....but when it shows me losing fuel i cn see the guage going down...and its a right reading
Phizinza
Can you smell fresh fuel around your car? They normally leak new the fuel pump which is close to the tank. Have you got a 5 - 10 litre (or what ever gallon) jerrycan so you can test your tank from full on how many miles it can go? Sounds like the gauge is screwed to me. GeneralDisorder
Probably corroded ground connections, coupled with old electrical system, and changes in temp. There's many things that can change your guage. Fuel condenses when it cools, so the same volume of gasoline can drop a bit in the tank when it's cold. Also the more accesories you have turned on, the less current will flow through the sending unit, and the lower your fuel guage will read. This effect is quite pronounced on some EA81's. My Brat does this. When you turn on the headlights, the fuel gauge drops a bit. Check the connection at the sending unit, and make sure your grounds are all looking good.
