crazy D
i was scanning the weber carbs site and i saw they sell a snorkel adapter......anyone every done it?
subestyle18
They are out their some one has one on the board search for the snorkle thread you'll probaly find the picture on their. I made one out of stuff at home depot for under $20 used the bottom of an old air filter to make a wider flange and then found a 3" pvc piece with a flange on it and then mated them together and siliconed it up. Run that to an elbo and out the fender with some heavy duty vent hose. Be awear that the noise level at the airfilter on the end is quite loud. I had mine at the top of the drivers window and it was almost deafining at highway speeds with the window down a crack. Im just going to extend it a little farther back so its behind me. crazy D
wow thats pretty cool....i want to build one when i get my weber.......i had the idea( i might sound stupid) i wanted to do duel snorkels.....just split it after its out the carb and then have it go out each fender and yeah. something like that. is that stupid or cool? and wouldnt i increase air intake? soobmater
Well i dont have a webber, but i built a snorkle for my lifted wagon a while ago. And dude, im gona tell ya right now, be careful... As soon as i built that snorkle, just the sound of it (pointed back towards the roof) .... Lets just say i raised my shifting points... Which is also why my car isnt running right now:lol: My advise is, if you do run dual snorkle's, run 1.5" dual's.. Anything bigger would just be a waste of piping for duals.. I have a single 2" and it does great..

Your PVC pipe with the flange, looks a lot like the piece my toilet sits on !! Good job.
subestyle18
Yeah thats what it is but it sure does the job. Nothing wrong with a little backyard engineering right. I have 3" pipe all the way to the carb from the filter, beats the 1" x 2" on the hitachi's air cleaner. Seemed to run better then even the stock weber air filter, And sounds way better. Frank B
Great job on the creativity, the only thing I could see for an improvement would be to use the aluminum dryer vent hose to reflect the engine bay heat from the incoming air. Also, does it clear the hood??

You can't "increase air intake" any more than the amount that the stock setup is restricting it. IE. the engine only sucks in as much air as it needs. This all changes with a turbo or supercharger, of course. All that aside, dual snorkels would look pretty badass. Andy

So it has the air filter in it, so i figured i wont need another one. And, well i lucked out, gorrila glue is holding the snorlke together, but when i put that last elbow on, to give it the curve pointed downwards, it had a lip on it, and it locked in place on the roof rack, just lucked out.. Its solid though.. And for the roofrack, john made that for me along with my lift a while back. As in mudrat

crazy D
yeah thats a cool setup....i was looking at a pic of qmans hatch and i like where he drilled the hole for the snorkel. its right up close to the door on the passenger side. im wondering now....is it smarter to just build the snorkel over the top of the air filter or put the filter up top on the end of the snorkel? subestyle18
Heres a outside shot of mine. I've made a cover for the filter to keep water out and painted it all to match but this picture is a little old. I ran sheat metal screws through s.s. hose clamps and into the fender to hold it all on there. Its really strong i can stand on the pipe and it doesnt budge. soobmater
cool......when the snorkel comes out the fender it looks like its strapped to it with Wire? Actually no, thats the seem of gorrila glue in the joints... But the way i made the hold really tight to the snorkle, it holds in place fine.. pyromanic
Just to be different, I bought one of these : http://www.knfilters.com/Racing/plenum.htm It's the second one down on the page. I bought mine from Summit Racing. Looks like they don't carry it any more though. It's on a lifted 85 wagon. Looks pretty cool, runs like a Weber. Way too expensive though. Stuck two K&N clones (from Summit) on it as I don't really need a snorkel. Then put a cast aluminum scoop above the dual plenum fro fresh cool air in the summer. I stick a piece of custom cut foam in the scoop in winter to keep the snow and crap out. Pyro
