goatman
I replaced both fuel filters on my 84. The one I replaced under the hood has the arrow on the filter pointing to the other hose (backwards of the old filter). Does this matter? It seems to not be running as well as it used to before, not as much power. But it could just be carb problems.
goatman
Does anybody know what I'm talking about?? Maybe I'll just get another filter to see if the arrow is pointing the same direction on the filter.
goobaroo
the arrow has to be pointing in the direction of the flow of fuel. pointing towards the hose that goes to the carb. if its a filter with 3 hoses the supply hose (from the fuel pump and gas tank) goes to the back of the arrow and the 3rd hose is your vapor seperator hose. Skip
Sir Goat, You speak of the "vapor separator" it does have a filter in it. I have seen it mounted with the two hose end on top and inverted with the two hose end on the bottom. Due to the fact that it is called a "vapor separator" maybe you have the "vapor" hose pointing to the carb? I am going to doubt this is the problem as it would truly be "running on vapors" but could be something to look at.
Frank B
I just replaced mine and the new one was backwards too compared to the old one. I had to tug and bend the lines and the little bracket to get it to work. It may be easier to use a longer fuel hose on both or either barb so they reach. You do want the supply line for the carb on the barb with the arrow, the one next to it is from the tank. The one on the top, or end is the vapor line. goatman
Thanks for the advice. I got the vapor seperator on right. I just have the other two routed backwards (arrow pointing towards gas tank) . I'm not sure if this effects performance.
GeneralDisorder
Shouldn't make any difference I wouldn't think in *performance*. But I would change it as the filter area is probably reduced, possibly leading to premature clogging. GD
