Milemaker13
This car starts and runs fine. The guy said it wouldn't go over 45mph? After letting it idle for like 20- 30 min, the ECU light was on. What is my first step in finding the fault? 84 gl 2wd sedan. N/A carb. 3 sp auto. naru
Please seeECU code reading and chart Your car is listed. 84s may be listed, but, some of the info therein is inaccurate. 84s have only test connectors,no read-memory connectors or memory clearing procedure. Some of the codes are inaccurate too.For instance, the list says code 42 is for the clutch circuit on an 84 carbed car when really it indicates that vacuum switch II remains off. Most codes can be read directly from the O2 monitor light on the ECU w/o fooling around w/test connectors if the ECS light is on. You might have a plugged convertor.Try testing engine vacuum too. baccaruda
make sure that the green test connectors aren't plugged in for regular driving; I just "fixed" my EA81T's ECU light by unplugging the test connectors.. the PO must not have known that they are normally to be unplugged...
