2001 Lgy GT 2.5 Impoved over my '97?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm looking into replacing my older '97 GT Legacy Wgn. I've found this 2001 GT. How's the 2.5 in these? Still DOHC? What's to look for in this newer body style?

Many thanks, STed

Ted,

There should be an SOHC 2.5 in the newer style Legacy. These have an external headgasket leak problem, but unlike the earlier HG issues these are usually covered by Subaru up to 100K miles. I think it's a pretty robust car aside from that, so just all the usual used car checks apply. I'm sure others will know more.

it's a solid car, what do you mean "what to look for in this body style", like what interior improvements or.....something else?

check for torque bind, change the ATF when you get the vehicle and it should be golden. the HG and TB issues we have just mentioned are well covered on this forum, use the search button to look up further info if you'd like.

Hi! I just ment that I know it's an updated and different body than mine. I was wondering if there is a hole lot of difference. I know it has 2 moon roofs. Did they keep the space in the rear the same? I'm looking into another WAGON. It will be a 5 speed .

THX, Ted

http://www.cars101.com/

Has gobs of Years/Makes/Models information.

Personally I like the look of the 95-99 Legacy GT's much better than the 00-04 GT's...

The 00-04's are definitely heavier both in weight and appearance (I have an '02 OBW).

I'm sure volume wise they're similar... Best way is to find one and go for a ride! Even if it's just an L or Outback, it'll give you a pretty good idea of what you're in for.

Good Luck!
