Guest Subie8
is it possible to fit and run a ez30 engine out of a 97 Outback in a 90-94 Legacy?
Ratty2Austin
anything is possible.... it depends on how much $$ and time you are able to put into the project.. bolting up that engine should not be a problem- it will fit into that body of car, but the problem will be getting all the wiring to work, as the EZ30 is OBDII or that new networking stuff? much more advanced than the EG33, which is a much larger engine... but yes, it can be done. Skip
EZ30 in a 97 OB?? Subaru 6 cyl history
Numbchux
like austin said, definately would work mechanically, but the wiring would be quite in-depth. also, IIRC the EZ30 (might just be the EZ30R) has 2 coolant outputs on the top of the engine, and one input on the bottom, so you'd have to use the radiator to match the engine. the EZ30R is virtually impossible to run in anything but it's factory configuration on a stock ECU. the hydra is possible, but pretty difficult. but an EZ30 would be similar to doing a WRX swap. I have some EZ30 plans myself, actually
Skip
I would like to see this 97 OB with the EZ engine. Please post a photo or a link to it. If someone put it in an OB the same would go for a Legacy as Chux says it would be a chore but only being 2 cm longer (less than an inch) than an EJ, the fit would not be the problem. The tranny bolt up and wiring well... they went to 8 bolt bellhousing but not in 97. The varriable intake and other bits.. good luck may the power of the Pleiades be with you. show me this 97 EZ30 OB first please
86BRATMAN
show me this 97 EZ30 OB first please i would like to see it as well, if it is in there it is not stock, the 3.0HO wasn't an option untill the 00-04 legacy

WoodsWagon
Need to know if the EZ30 8 bolt bellhousing would bolt up to the EJ 4 bolt tranny bellhousing. Also need to know if the EJ flywheel will bolt to the EZ crank to use an EJ clutch.
Numbchux
Need to know if the EZ30 8 bolt bellhousing would bolt up to the EJ 4 bolt tranny bellhousing. Also need to know if the EJ flywheel will bolt to the EZ crank to use an EJ clutch. I would assume so on both accounts. there have been a number of people that bolt them to the STi 6MT. and since that's interchangeable with the 5MT.... 970subaru
yes they bolt up. it would be an amazing swap, I would love to see it done. the ez30 is one of the coolest 6 bangers out there. but it will take LOTS of money, time, and skill. Huck369
Yeah the 8 bolt bell housing will bolt up to the 4 bolt EJ stuff.... Here is a link to a guy that put a EZ into his Rally Impreza Coupe. http://www.linaracing.com/impreza-h6-conversion-faq.php The biggest down side to using a EZ30 for me is the cost, as they bring big money from the wreckers.... I had originally planned on using the EZ30 in FrankenWedge, but went with the EG33 due to the availability and price.
