milkman111083
what would an appropriate price be for a 1979 brat, very original condition. Absolutely no rust, one dent on fender (easy fix). Interior seats are destroyed, but dash is great. still has jump seats. Suposedly runs but has been sitting for a long time and apparently burns oil. has low miles on the car though, 70k. Also anyone know how much an engine rebuild would cost to get her running good so she'll pass smog?
DerFahrer
It honestly depends on how much it's worth to you. In my opinion, anyone who buys a Gen1, buys it for a project, as a hobby. So whatever your hobby budget is. Have that number in your mind, and stick to it. Ask the owner how much he wants, and if it's more than your number, negotiate him down. 75subie
$6-800 seems about right for it......
Seahag1978
Ask subyluvr2212 about my yellow BRAT. It looked great but wasn't at all, at least on the inside. Some people here will think this is nuts, but if you have a good, rust-free body and frame, EVERYTHING in the BRAT can be replaced for well under $2000. if you look around and can do the work yourself, except upholstery and paint (that's why the higher price for an acceptable restoration). We aren't talking about a 100 point car, they never were, even when new. (body panels never fit perfect, cheap plastics/foam, poor paint in unseen areas, etc.) I have seen them sell for triple that on eBay... to the right buyer. Strike your best deal and pick at it... you'll end up with an awesome one-of-a-kind.

Yeah, I was aghast when I read all the stuff you replaced on yours, because the car looked absolutely gorgeous when I saw it. The thing is, I never drove it, or even heard it run, so I couldn't judge its mechanical condition.

Gotta start super low in this case.Low mileage, sure but I got my '78 with 70k too for $350,running great. Granted the days of getting that lucky are waning, but I'd still start way low because of it sitting, beat interior,dent,etc.. $200 and let them work you up a little if you have that weak of a heart.(don't be insulted,we've all gotten weak for one thing or another) Like 75Subie said for max,but I sure wouldn't go any higher. Good luck

Consider it an investment. $1500 is not bad. Todd
