The News Just Keeps Getting Worse

Recommended Posts

Well..we figured out what caused Buckys brake failure ( basically) One of his wheel bearings in the rear went to toast..wheel has play of over an inch ( Rory took a look at it today)Said the same thing caused the same results in his old Brat. But I have no choice since Rocky is down with his charging issue and a new Alt wont be in the area any sooner than Tuesday.

Anyway..just the news I wanted to hear...getting real tired of being poor ..I actually wonder what it would be like to have something that isnt classified as a POS.

OK End rant..going for :drunk: :drunk: now

yuck. that's cracked up. if it's that bad you might want to replace the entire hub. it would be cheaper to buy a used hub probably than new bearings anyway. and new bearings might be toast soon after installing them if the hub is damaged inside from the bearings failing. don't forget to specify FWD or AWD when fixing it.

did the previous owner not tell you about any of these things before buying it or was it sight unseen?

Im sure bucky is hurting to from not having you drive him:) . Just a small set back, dont worry you will be back in him soon! Remember he is old and needs TLC. Maybe he is jelous:eek: I think of it this way its like a dog they age 7 years to our 1. so a car has like a 5 to 1. that would mean my car is 105.

Gary..I have had Bucky for 4 years now..we replaced a wheel cylinder on that side about 2 years ago..So basically with Bucky..it has been 4 years of just trying to keep him held together cause of not having anything else to drive( Dont forget Bucky is my Loyale). I just figured my rear brake toasted and was just planning on doing the rear disk swap..But Rocky ( the XT6 ) was supposed to be Buckys temp replacement...Rockys electrical issue was a sight unseen....The seller was up front and open with known problems..right now it all just came at a bad time $$$ wise. I am getting ready to go out now and try the new connector on Rockyand ( keep fingers crossed) maybe I will be lucky and the alt will be fine. Funny thing..I have 3 other alts in my basement..just none for the XT6:rolleyes:

I know Bucky misses being driven but he also understands why he needs to be parked for a bit.( He tries sooo hard..little Loyale with the hugest heart)...and he likes Rocky..he told me so;)

Ew, those are some pretty sucky problems. Like in my situation, where I own three cars, and can't drive any of them for various reasons.(Volvo 'cause it pitched a rod, Celica because the valvetrain is bad, bad oil pressure on the Soob, and most of all, no dough for insurance right now) But soon I will be going once more! Sorry for the temporary hijack, best of luck with all this on your plate, I sincerely hope it will get better.

Good luck with it,Connie.

If I get a chance I'll dig for the two loaded backing plates I have.Good cylinders and brakes, ready to bolt on for 2WD EA82's.You know the deal, they're in there, but not too far back.I just had my hands on them a week ago or so.

Hey Paul!! if you see this in time...you dont think Charlie may have an Alt for the XT6?? We are heading up to Andrews later also and if he does/you do/maybe even Andrew does..maybe I can grab that..Rory is supposed to stop over here tomorrow to check some stuff ( and bringing his new GF who I adore) My concerns at this time are more getting the XT6 back on the road since we have dropped everything on Bucky..and the XT6 is 100% legal ..and Bucky is kinda..well you know:rolleyes: I should do all this alt testing.ordering whatever today but Andrew gave the call for help and you know we just have to reply:grin:

I definitly know what you mean about it just keeps getting worse.

I went from my car supposivly just having one broken timing belt, to a bad waterpump, clogged up radiator, leaking coolant lines, leaking intake manifold gaskets after a month or so. Im awaiting a different intake manifold in the mail and my car will be fully road fixed with hopfully no more problems for awhile.

if it was an impreza I would totally be able to hook you up with parts...:-\

GL!

seriously though...all you need is a bearing right? do they just slip in or do they need pressed in? ea-81's just slip right in (2wd).

I am not sure..havent tore into Bucky yet..been spending the day stressing over getting the XT6 going ( just got home from picking up the Alt..had it rebuilt..guy said it was definately shorted out and we figured out the reasons)Warming up the garage now to go put it in and (Fingers crossed) it will have that problem fixed...

Matt..Bucky needs more than just the bearing..his rears are shot..gonna do a disk swap I think..either way I need lots of parts..

Connie, if the bearings got eaten up, it REALLY is not that juge a deal to replace them. The races are pressed in, but not incredibly tightly.

What was the verdict with the XT-6? did you pop the alternator with the Funky Plug, so the new plug didn't make it go vroom? you just kinda said "Hey He charges!!"

I just think is SOO funny that you drive a GL 2wd like me, that you named bucky.. which is my uncle's name.. and then you bought an XT-6, which my dad had owned... strange twists.

What caused Rockys Alt to toast was a combination of 3 things...the munched plug shorting it out and loose serpentine belt and the use of WAY too much belt dressing. Thanks to yesterdays "I have got to get this car on the road Today" temper tantrum..I found a couple good sorces locally for help and parts.Found a Subaru Specialist/junk yard withing 1/2 of my house ..and another Specialist was recomended by someone from XT6.net for when I get stumbed on work:banana:
