Subarian
90 Legacy 2.2 auto 2wd. I bought it to use the engine for a project car- the trans was toast. But when my daughter got her license, my wife decided I should fix it for her, so I put in a wrecking yard trans. It worked fine, but a couple of months later daughter was playing in the snow and got it stuck. By the time she got home, it had no reverse. Here's the interesting thing: reverse works fine when it's cold, but once it warms up it's gone. Any thoughts? (and yes, I've checked the ATF)
johnceggleston
tell her to never drive anywhere without a couple of football players in the backseat. reverse went out on my 95 legacy, i drove it for a few months and it was challengeing. i swapped the trans. it's a bummer that this will be your second used trans. nipper
Your tranny is shot. When its cold, the fluid is thick, so it can operate the clutches. As the fluid thins out, it leaks around the seals, and no more reverse. nipper
