Centrifugal
how do i remove the shift boot and knob on my '93 loyale (with the button)? i got as far as getting the boot out of the floor but i'm assuming i need to get it off by sliding it up, which i can't do with the knob there. Centrifugal
so it's just a brute force thing? i didn't want to break it and i didn't know if there was some hidden thing i had to unscrew or whatever.
azsubaru
At least on my Loyale, you just turn it - it's pretty tight at first.
mikeshoup
The pushbuttons may be different. Look on the side and see if there is something like a pin holding it in. You may have to punch it out with a punch of the appropriate size.

On the standard tranny, it's lefty loosy (simply unscrew and remove the knob, pulling it away from the rubberized boot top). On the pushbuttons, there is apparently a pin that must be removed with a punch.
WoodsWagon
There is a small roll pin that goes through from the left side to the right. Be carefull, the wiring that goes to the switch is embedded in the boot, so just leave the knob flopping while you remove the boot.

86BRATMAN
you'll need a straight punch that is exactly the same size as the roll pin, or just slightly smaller, using a tapered punch usually expands the pin making it almost imposible to remove without damaging it
