testy
Ive done a search, but 5 pages in picking up random stuff I gave up. And I know you guys have the answer straight up. If I were to swap an ej22 from an early 90s legacy would It bolt up to a 5sp EA82 tranny with p/t4wd (but set up as rwd). And if I wanted it all wheel drive what would I need to do? idosubaru
EJ and EA stuff are incompatible, it will not bolt right up. adapter plates are available, you'll need one of those to make it work.
testy
so with an adapter plate an ej22 motor WILL bolt to a ea82 trans?
86BRATMAN
yes, only thing with any ea81 car you'll need to notch the motor mount hole in the engine crossmember about 1/4" towards the outside of the car to let the motor drop in
testy
is this also true with the ea82?
GeneralDisorder
is this also true with the ea82? Notching the cross-member? Yes. GD
baccaruda
my EA82 crossmember required no notches.
Numbchux
nor did mine... this should answer most of your questions: http://putstuff.putfile.com/38038/1941743 and let me know if you have any other questions, or would like to see any other details in it....I'm dragging my feet to finalize it, and upload it to the school servers. GeneralDisorder
I thought he meant putting the EA82 in the EA81.... that requires notching. GD

Snowman
If you want AWD instead of part-time and are willing to sacrifice low range capability, the legacy 5 speed can be installed without much difficulty. You just need to get EA82T front axles, fabricate some tranny mounts, adapt the clutch cable and shifter, and alter the driveshaft. I used the legacy driveshaft because I've been told that they are more durable. It will bolt right up if you have the front section of it shortened by one inch. (I don't remember exactly what the issue was, but the stock EA82 driveshaft was going to have to be modified anyway, as it was either too long or too short). testy
Ok, sounds awsome. So If I were going to go and do the AWD thing, it would make my life easier to just pick up a ea82T car to put it in?

86BRATMAN
In an EA82 car there really isn't any real modification to the trans crossmember needed, use the stock front and rear pieces with a wrx center section, it all bolts together pretty easily
