Is it an RX with RWD?

Recommended Posts

This is an argument my friend's and I are having.

My friend has a RX that is in RWD. I give him a hard time because it should be AWD. I tell him to go get an old corolla or something. The other day they told me "We can't put a N/A ej25 in it, because it wouldn't be an RX without the turbo." What I'm getting at is, with something as Rare as an RX, he shouldn't defame it by RWD'ing it.

I'm asking you guys/gals what you think of when you hear RX. When I hear it, I think of a three door (usually white) coupe that is turbo with an AWD tranny that has a diff lock and hi/lo. RX sedans don't count in this poll. Thanks!

sounds like a stupid argument...

but no matter what you do to it, it will still be an RX.

rather than arguing about it why dont you just keep your Subaru AWD and prove to him that it is better... so what if he can "Drift" around a corner like a ricer. you can still kick his but.

whatever you do dont neuter it by cutting off its turbo.

Guess I'm neutering mine then:eek:

EJ25>EA82T no matter, turbo or not, 55 more horsepower can't be wrong.:burnout:

dyno results when completed?

i'm saving up for an ej25 with ej22 heads. :)

plus, isn't there a guy on here with a RWD rx sedan?

i see nothing wrong with RWD, true that it doesn't have the corner exit capability that AWD does, but it doesn't suffer from understeer in some cases like AWD does.

why not try it to be different?

As with almost all old-gen Subarus, RX's are always cool, in AWD, RWD, 4WD, Turbo, N/A, etc.

It's the quality of the product and the versitility of their designs that make a Subaru so wonderful.

If up-ing the HP +55 is wrong, I don't want to be right. The only thing that I would be opposed to is making an AWD RX a FWD. That would get me, but that's about it. RWD Subarus are real fun - my brat was a blast & drove very nicer in a RWD configuration than stock FWD.

I've heard that when RXs are run in RWD they blow center diffs. I would suggest to your friend to put in a part time 4WD tranny and sell his RX trans to someone who wants AWD.

+1

But I will also stick to my true belief...

"It's your car do what you want with it, that's what makes it your car"

That's funny because that's what's pissing me off the most. He's just going to screw the tranny up when I could use it for my Automatic AWD RX, yeah I know, the worst of the bunch. That's why I'm pissed that he won't sell me the AWD. I offered to pay him for the tranny AND buy the Part Time 4wd tranny too. He's too stubborn and doesn't listen to what I Have to say, it takes a 3rd party for him to realize WTF is going on.

I agree and disagree...

He should just put a PB in the car and run it that way in RWD.(4wd with no front axles) Thats makes all happy.

I disagree that he's going to break it. This isn't a legacy transmission, the Rx and XT-6 FT transmission diff lock is built very tough. Its got a big metal-interlocking-teeth thing that will be very hard to break at stockish horsepower numbers.
