Bmm001
It started out very mild. Now it's really loud, and I'm noticing some power loss. It sounds like it is up near the engine. Car is a '95 legacy sedan A/T with 117,000 miles. My Subie mechanic can't look at it until Friday. My question is this:Is it OK to drive the car around town all week, or will this be bad for the car? 86BRATMAN
My first thought is the exhaust manifold gaskets. Start it up and let it idle, go and lay on the ground and get up under the front if you can to see if you can tell more about exactly where it is. If it is these gaskets I'd probably keep driving to a minimum, its sometimes hard to do with a dd car. But as long as you are having it looked at this friday it shouldn't do anything bad. Bmm001
Well, I did some crawling and investigating today when I got home from work. It seems to be cracked/rusted-out directly behind the 2nd Cat. I can't tell which because I can't get far enough underneath to get a good look. Still OK to drive on short/gentle trips until I can get it fixed? My shop is booked solid until the end of the week.. unless any of you central PA people have any recommendations for other shops. I live 10 miles north of Lancaster. Thanks so much, Brian M.

86BRATMAN
I'm with john on this one. Any exhaust shop worth a red cent can weld or patch up a crack. No real need for a specialist here.
Sydfloyd44
Brian, only mechanic I can recommend over your way is Dutch Valley auto works. Scott is the one to ask for in the service dept. He used to own RME auto care on Columbia Ave until Dutch Valley built a new building and bought scotts business to add it to the body shop. Good, honest guy. He worked on my 95 Legacy for about 5 years before I got transferred back across the river to York. http://www.dutchvalleyauto.com/ What part of Lancaster? I visit a friend every weekend who lives in Manheim near the auction. Will actually be out to dinner tomorrow night at Ichiban restaurant at 30 and Fruitville pike. 10 miles north sounds like Lititz area maybe?
