jimbo747
I may have goofed big time. :boohoo: I was replacing the valve cover gaskets on my EA82 and accidentally stripped the threads in one of the bolt holes (in the cylinder head). Is there any way to fix this? Any way to drill the hole out and put in some kind of insert? Help please! :-\
archemitis
you can use a helicoil, and it will cost you about 40 bucks for the kit. or you can find a standard bolt that will fit(just a hair bigger) and redrill your cover and retap the hole to fit the bolt. i would either go one metric size up or go to the closest standard size. helicoils are for rich folk. toybuilder
Because of the floating nature of the valve cover and the way the bolt holes are sealed, I don't think it would be feasible to use a different size bolt. I would go the heli coil route. Expensive but correct.
