mellow65
I bought this from a upper end wrecking yard that more or less only deals with newer stuff. This is supposed to be out of a 03 WRX wagon auto. I took the plate off and sure enough the gears were right, being 4.111 that I was looking for. But I have never seen a factory LSD. If anyone has looked inside a WRX rear end is this what they look like. Sorry for the crappy picture but all i had was my phone.

john in KY
Just turn one of the axles. If the other axle rotates in the same direction then it's an LSD. But it's an open diff if the other axle turns in the opposite direction.
nickb21
Cool pics. I have no idea what the answer is, but am interested. Are the WRX diff's similiar to my 02 OBW's diff? I've never opened one up, but am told it is a vLSD. If they are the same, where is the 'viscous' part?

ericem
Looks to be open, but if the both axles turn the same direction, i guess that rules out it is a LSD.
edrach
Looks open to me also. However, the other test is to turn the input shaft and if both output shaft turn the same direction, it might not be an open diff. Perhaps VLSD?

However, the other test is to turn the input shaft and if both output shaft turn the same direction, it might not be an open diff. Perhaps VLSD? it acts just like any LSD is supposed to, twist an axle the other axle turns the same way, turn the input shaft they both turn the same. i just have never had any experience with viscous LSD. is this what one is supposed to look like. i know what i clutch type looks like, Torsen too, even the cone style. but normally there are springs, or something. mellow65
nope, thats an open diff. this is what a LSD looks like: what is that from, that almost looks like a old school clutch style rear end. but what the hell do i know, im going to call them up tomorrow and raise hell,
mellow65
nope, thats an open diff. this is what a LSD looks like: well i just had someone from nasioc ID my picture of the rear end. he positively IDed that as being a viscous limited slip from a WRX. So mark that down as something learned today:banana:
