I assume this is an engine complete with manifold, harness, etc. The OBD II cars have three(?) connectors on the wiring harness on the passenger's side by the trans bellhousing. The earlier cars had the harness connectors on the driver's side. (Assuming left hand drive US spec cars.) Also, if each cylinder head only has a single exhaust port, it must be OBD II, as the single port heads were introduced in '96. Dual port heads could be found on a pre '95 OBDI engine or a 1995 obd II engine- the only year for dual port & OBD II. Good luck, Nathan Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
avk Posted March 8, 2007 Share Posted March 8, 2007 One sure sign of OBDII is the presence of EGR system, however with 2.2, it was only installed on cars with auto transmissions. Then of course from 1997 on there are different valve covers and spark plugs are in the center. Also, if the engine is from 1994 or older, it's not OBDII. Some telltale signs: decorative cover (or at least brackets to hold it), cam and crank sensors with pigtails, box-shaped steering reservoir.
