What should i do while i have my EJ22 out

Recommended Posts

So I am going to be swapping my EJ22 from my legacy to my impreza and i was wondering what should i do to it while i have it out.

I plan on doing so far:

timing belt

water pump

valve cover gaskets

rear main

front main

clutch/resurface flywheel

any other stuff i should do while i have it out and it's easy to get to.

The motor only has 118k miles on it so i don't think doing head gaskets would be necessary. it's never had any over heating issues or every ran bad.

ej22t pistons, crossmember, manifole, uppipe, turbo, downpipe...
Good point, don't want to forget those! Replace at least the geared timing belt idler 13085AA080 near the water pump, and maybe a new tensioner. Replace rear main seal retainer with a metal one if you have plastic. Reseal oil pump (remove, check rear case screws for back out, maybe put a little green loctite on, replace pump to block o-ring, reseal with permatex ultragrey or anaerobic), check whatever those clutch related bearings are such as pilot, throwout, etc., replace thermostat&gasket since water pump will be off anyway.

Cam seals?

I replaced the tensioner and timing belt idler and pulleys at 150K and the engine ran a lot quieter, never realized how much over time that the front of the engine was getting so noisy.
