kingbobdole
So I put an EJ25 SOHC out of an 2000 LGT in my 88 Rx. I have an aftermarket water temp and oil pressure gauge... Where can I tap into the motor at? Thanks!
nipper
SUbaru sells a tap that goes into one of the oil journal plugs for the oil pressure gauge. If your not going to use the factory water temp gauge you can install it there, or get an old radiator inlet/outlet and expeiment with drilling and tapping there. nipper
calebz
For the temp, I put a T in one of the heater hoses, a threaded insert in the top part of the T allows just enough room for the probe to get into the flow of coolant without being an obstruction. kingbobdole
Is there no pressure sender for the oil? I thought the car had a light stock... Where is the temp sensor that I can remove?
Phizinza
I got a oil pressure unit out of my old EA81 (not the switcj type, the pressure type) then used a right angle brass pipe fitting and mounted in the old pressure switches place, the unit sits just under the water passage way below the Alt on my EJ22. Sorry, no pictures yet. The problem with the stock temp sensor area is using adaptors on it causes the new temp sensor to be not in line with the flow of coolent. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, but I wouldn't take the chance. I was looking at pluming it into the thermostat housing under the motor. But I think I'll just go with the resistor trick for my conversion in the Brat.
86BRATMAN
The switch for the oil pressure light is right under the alternator. It has one wire going into it, you can't miss it.
kingbobdole
ok.. I got where the oil pressure switch is... wheres the coolant temp sensor at? The probe I have is all roundy, it should be ok, and I'd rather watch the temp and make it eat up then not watch it and have it overheat on its own. Lazer
Coolant sensor should be under the inntake on the passenger side. I would plumb it into the heater hose as sugested.
kingbobdole
Would a hard plastic T work or do they sell something special for this purpose?
Uberoo
Im at the same stage with my ej22 swap.I could tee of a heater hose but I want a location that is connected to the engine with metal-direct link. That way I can see if Im overheating becuase of no coolant or something. With between the temp sender and the engine you lose that.I don't really want to lose my engine because it overheats because a hose burst or fluid is low and the gauge not tell me.Can the water distribution pipe come off without taking intake manifold off? Its pretty easy to tell when something like that happens. If your gauge says your motor is running at 50 degrees, chances are theres no coolant. The situation as you described it won't happen. You will either see superheated coolant temps during overheat, or temps WAAAAAYYYYY below normal. Eaither is a good indicator of a problem
Uberoo
ok which hose is inlet hose on the heater core on a 1987 GL wagon?
86BRATMAN
I don't think it really makes a difference which way they are routed. I've seen it discussed on here before somewhere though.
Uberoo
I routed it off the hose that comes from the water pump so that one is inlet. As far as the heater core goes...I think they are symetrical as far as flow goes...(fingers crossed). Then I found out that the oil hose that came in my gauge kit is too short if I run it through the fender like the wires..Maybe through some of the grometted holes in the firewall instead... kingbobdole
New Question! How far off would the gauge be if I put it in the fan switch port on the side of the radiator?
Uberoo
you might not have enough length for your temp probe. How long do you have?you will need atleast 7 possibly 8 ft to reach the radiator.
kingbobdole
Uberoo is right... its too short... Any thoughts on where I might get the T fitting for the heater hose? Will a plastic T work? I would assume that I would need a brass T... maybe I'll head out to Home depot tomorrow....
Uberoo
I have a plastic tee that on two ends in barbed, and the T is 1/2 pipe thread. then find various adapters to go from 1/2 pipe to what ever your temp sender is.I have two adapters on my coolant temp line and 4 to on the oil pressure... kingbobdole
The plastic T doesnt leak?
Uberoo
I dont know yet.I havent gotten my engine to fire.Although it was a 3/4" t so I really had to work to get it on there. Then I used sealing tape on the threads.
kingbobdole
I used sealing tape and got a 5/8ths T... worked great I think... when I turn on the heat it drops and the gauge is kinda slow to read... .
kingbobdole
Ha ZA! Magically, it doesn't leak...
