Redloy
So the Loyale's safe and sound and unstolen - I guess my note doesn't need to be taking up a slot at the top now. My question - how did these people start the car without screwing up my ignition? Don't they have to pry it out to hotwire the car or whatever? I'm wondering if the 90 Loyales have that thing like certain years of Toyotas are rumored to have, where one key fits all. Or maybe it's common knowlege you can get them started with a nailfile or something. (my key is VERY plain looking) So I'm thinking that whoever stole my car might try it again after a while. It's going to be parked in the same spot, pretty high visibility. They know how to start it, apparently. Any god ideas for this? Secret cutoff switch like I remember my dad rigging up in the old days or something?
GeneralDisorder
Cut the fuel pump ground circuit with a switch either under the car or under your seat. They will never figure it out. Car will start, and then promptly die so it will be very confusing for a theif. GD

You can get to the plug that the ignition wires go through very easily under dash, possibly even through fuse box hole. But since the steering lock would still be on, my bet is they just stuck any Subaru key(or nissan) and wiggled and turned. Every old soob I've had, even my 93 Legacy, will unlock and start with almost any key and a little wiggle. I like that cause I have just one key for my 3 Soobs:clap: Not so good for security though:(
nipper
Stick a ground down subaru key in the ignintion. While trying to turn the key rap the cylinder. The force of turning the cylinder will hold the spring loaded pins in place while the rapping of the cylinder makes the pins bounce...... or so i heard nipper
mikeshoup
Chances are they just had an old Nissan or Subaru key and tried it. My mom's 99 Legacy key will start my 84 wagon. My 88 Wagon's key would start my 86 XT. My 84 Wagon's key turned the lock on one of the cars in the junkyard (tried it out of curiosity...) These lock cylinders get so worn out after awhile, that they start with any key that closely matches the original. I compared my mom's 99 leg key to my 84 key, and if you rounded all of the sharp points, they'd look exactly alike except that the leg has an extra bumpy thing on the top. 75subie
yeah, most times you can start multiple subarus with one key. when i bought my 82 brat, i already knew how it ran before the owner even got home from work:rolleyes:
heartless
a simple toggle switch in a hidden location that cuts power to fuel pump, whatever, will certainly prevent future thefts. highly recommend you tell NO ONE where that switch is once you install it unless you absolutely have to (not even here)
