So the past few days I've been working on removing some stuff from my RX (there'll be another post on that later) and decided to started swapping it over into my coupe. Yes, it don't run... yet but since I have sourced an engine I just have to wait for it to get here, so I might as well do other things right? So today, put the coupe up on a lift at work and ripped the complete 2wd rear end out of it. In just a few hours, I had the 4wd rear end from my RX into it...

I still have to get the SPFI engine, RX FT4wd 5-speed d/r tranny, turbo engine crossmember, front 5-lug, driveshaft, checkered seats and a few other little items before I'll be happy for the time being. She ain't gonna be fast but it'll get me around!:headbang:

I do have one question though... for the carrier bearing since this was a 2WD car, what should I do? There's no mounts for it underneath that I saw!

for the carrier bearing, I think the best way is to make brackets for it. I used some metal strip, cut 2 6" long pieces, bent them at an angle so when set flat along the driveshaft tunnel, the bottom would be horizontal, then drilled a whole in the tunnel on each side, and bolted them on there. it's worked great so far....

You could also get the bracket off of a 4WD car and weld it under there...

Yeah I gotta roll under the RX and take a look at what is exactly going on under there. I was thinking about making a mount and I probably could BUT I don't know if I'd wanna risk it, especially driving it 18 hours on the interstate and then getting lazy and reusing it for my EJ20G swap:eek:

So I got the instrument cluster out, swapped to my black center console, and swapped in my checkered seats. Tomorrow I'll be putting in my RX instrument cluster, speedo cable, pedal assembly, clutch cableand a few other tid bit items. I'm shooting for Wednseday to get the crossmember swapped over to the turbo one, front 5-lug and possibly the RX tranny in and mounted. Then I'll have to make a mount for the carrier bearing, give the car an alignment and swap engines to the new SPFI engine. Hopefully I can get it done Saturday so I can take it to the big Redrocks meet on Sunday.

So yeah, kinda didn't happen by Saturday which sucks but oh well. Bodykit is currenly prepped for paint (going with an Obsidian Black Pearl) which I'll shoot this coming week if I have free time. I got the paint mixed for the body but I added my own custom tint to the paint which will make it stand out from the rest. I won't get pics of it until I get it all painted with the new LGT mesh rims I'm getting. Also got a set of coilovers from ebay to help level it out without lowering it the ghetto way ie cuttin the springs. For now, I'm just about done with the tranny swap and the front end swap but like I said, no more pics until I get it painted and the new rims on it. Its something for everyone to look forward to including me:grin:

does it burn out/drift?

The answer is quite easy. Once I replace the engine, no. Its stock SPFI EA82 and thats what I'm replacing it with currently. My RX when it ran, would smoke the tires off from a stoplight. This will eventually do it when I swap in an EJ20 but thats still awhile away as I'm moving to Washington here in less then 2 months.

I thought sex on wheels envolved some thing about setting the handbrake and folding down the rear seats?

well my ebrake is always down since it no longer works and my rear seats DO fold down.... I'm too old for the back seat of a car anymore:-p

Well I wasn't going to post any pics of the paint work but here's a teaser pic for everyone. These are the 2 rear spats of the bodykit, the rest of it is all in primer and waiting for me to get a chance to spray them, maybe this weekend.... Remember, these are in OBP but you can't really tell until they're outside in the daylight... mmmmmm hot!

They also have 3 coats of a show quality clear on them too!

So today is Friday. I got a test batch of paint done for my car. I mixed the stock silver color in 1/2 pint, then I started tinting it to my pleasure. I added in 50 grams of coarse flake aluminum to it, 5.5 grams of blue pearl (same as whats in the OBP), and 1 gram of bright blue. This was enough to take that original 1/2 pint, give it more of a metal flake appearance and a nice blue tint that when the car is driving dow the road and the sun hits it just right, it'll give it a blue flash, then back to it silver color. Its going to have a great flop to it:banana:

so tonight I did some more drivetrain work to it. I got the whole front end ready to come out (need a second set of hands for some moving issues) and the tranny is sitting on the floor, along with the TQ. Tomorrow, I'm going to finish taking out the crossmember (4 nuts woo:rolleyes: ) and support the weight of the engine , drop it out, and stuff the turbo one into there. I'm going to break down the front end I have and put it in there a few pieces at a time but I think I can get it done in roughly 5 hours, tranny and all. So by 5:00 tomorrow afternoon, I'll have a turbo crossmember, front 5-lug conversion, and my RX gearbox in there with shift linkages. Then a couple late nights and I should have a new carrier bearing mount thats to some T-iron and a welder. Hopefully Kingbobdole comes up on the 13th and brings me an engine. This car WILL be running in a couple weeks:banana:

Progress continues and will have pics once I get my camera from work. Front 5-lug is in and bolted up. Monday night, I will be installing the RX gearbox and driveshaft into it, then prep it for the engine swap. I still have to install the coilovers in the front and adjust them down but that'll be later on this week I think. Then I gotta install the RX instrument cluster, pedal cluster, attach the clutch cable and speedo cable to their proper ends, and then wire in the RX cluster and diff lock switch. Then finish installing the black center console, RX checkered seats, install my 16" Legacy mesh rims if I end up getting them and doing an alignment. Its getting closer and next weekend will hopefully be the engine swap and have it running:banana:

Time for pics of the recent work done to the car. This started Friday at 5:30pm (when I clocked out) till 9:30pm Firday night, then Saturday morning from 9am to 4pm, then Monday night from 5:30pm to almost 10pm...

So I still have to make a mount for the carrier bearing to install the driveshaft, clock my coilovers down a lot to give it a better look, swap some decent tires onto my steelies (after I "fix" them with my sledge hammer), alignment, install pedal cluster, install new engine (when it gets here), install some interior pieces like seats, center console and dash trim, wire in my diff lock, and do a few other small items to it before it should be road worthy to drive everyday. Then I'll be spending a week in the evenings to get the bodywork done and painted. I'm also going to go with all black bumpers from my RX and paint those and the trim in the same OBP as the bodykit. I think it'll look sexy:clap:

  • 3 weeks later...

YAY!!! I just drove her home for the first time. Tonight I finished up a few things to get it driveable but I still got a few other little things before she's ready for long roadtrips. Tonight after work, I gave it a good alignment, finished my carrier bearing mount and bled the brakes. I'm gonna get some more pics of it this weekend when I get it washed and cleaned up so stay tuned:banana:
