dads85
Ok, that one worked, I'll try again. 5 years ago I got my Dad's 85 Brat and was active for awhile. 3 years ago I got the Forested, put the Brat in storage and have not been back since then. Now I'm selling the Forester. Took it to Hanson's in Olympia for complete service and detailing. Also to find an oil leak. Bad news. Leaking head gasket. 3 choices: "reseal it" for $2,250; new engine for $5,000; sell as-is, which is pretty good, otherwise. There's more to this story but I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas. lmdew
Those cost are on the HIGH side. You could always put a 95 2.2 in it. Make sure you get the motor from an auto which has the EGR valve. $600 tops for the motor and a days work.
3Pin
I would price it at street value and then subtract the real cost of a HG repair $1200-$1400 and call it a day. Tell the next person, for the 1200-1400, replace the timing belt, all engine seals and oil pump, water pump, seperator plate and plugs as well. The engine comes out for this procedure.....oh yeah and then back in again. A 2.2 is not a bad idea if the 2.5 engine is toast. If the 2.5 still runs strong and is under 150k, I'd recommned the next guy do the HG work over the swap. My 2 cents.
